I am with CrusierBob... not gonna worry about it but, I will eventually take the steps if I can find the right insulation and will check the float bowl level when I get the Maxair filter. Thats a lotta insulation for my relocating the fuel pump to the right side cover. Closing the petcock prior to shut down work fine for me. ScottB, ScottW... good points to ponder,

Mine vomited all over itself twice today. I really need to insulate the fuel line. I have to believe that that's the fix.

HI Scotto, for me having to remember to turn the fuel off prior to every time you stop the bike to run most fuel out of fuel line & float bowl so carb has nothing to puke for the rest of the time/miles/yrs we are gong to own & ride these bikes is a lot more of a PIA then taking 1.5 hrs & $20 to properly insualte the complete fuel system & forget it after that.

Then you shut the fuel off when you stop the bike or not at all if you wish when you stop the bike and no carb puke.

But i do shut the fuel off most times when i have stopped & am shutting the bike off .

Just my $02 .

stick ,i sent you a pm with my process/instructions i worte up to do the fuel system insulation mod/application etc just like i did that was successfull in stopping my bikes carb puke so chk it out.

Hopefully if you try it out you will also get the same good result like i did which was no more carb puke making it a thing of the past.

Good luck if you try it out and if you do then please post the result here in RSC.

BTW,if anyone else here in RSC would like the proceedures/instructions i wrote up for insulating our R*'s fuel system to stop carb puking fuel or a least greatly reduce the frequency/sevarity of the carb puke if it does happen send me a pm asking for it and i will gladly send it to you .

Man I am so happy to have found this site. I bought an 06 midnight star in feb. of 09 and this carb puke problem has slowly but surely been getting worse. I am not a mechanic,so I have taken it to the shop many times and no one seems to know what the problem is. This is great information, now I just have to get someone willing to do this stuff. Or maybe I will just have to figure out how to do it myself. Any way after all this time and having a half a dozen men look at me like I was crazy when I described this to them. I feel like there is at least some hope that I can get it taken care of.This has been so frustrating. As I type this I am having the fuel line insulated.I am hoping the fella I have working on it this time will be willing to look at this site. Thank you sooo very much!

Ok, I wrapped my fuel line like scottw said with the high temp insulation tape only I wrapped only the long fuel line between the jugs and nothing else. Saturday I rode in a poker run with temps in the lower 90s with high humidity, little to no wind and two up. At each stop I just rode in and killed it. When I went to start it up no pukeing at all. Normally there would be a quart of fuel on the bike and on the ground. Not sure but I think it may have solved the problem. When it hits the upper 90s I'll know for sure but it looks good so far.

Scott,
I would like to get a copy of your procedure, I have the problem all the time when its hot. In fact it has stained the motor. I tried carb cleaner and a brush with no luck. Any other idea's?

My e-mail is brefenes@h-mconstructors.com

thanks

HI GUYS.ALL you with carb puke issues need to extend the fuel overflow hose to drain/dump fuel out below your bikes for if/when your carb pukes just like i have been trying to get you guys to do for months now here in RSC. But many of you seem to ignor that fact and just let the puked fuel go onto the the hot motor/hot exhaust just waiting to be lite up.
Scott

I decided to do as you advised even though I haven't had the problem in a long long time. The only thing I had was some fuel line which is kind of thick walled so I probably need to find some thinner walled tubing to make a neater looking job. I may never get any fuel out of the vent but maybe better safe than sorry.

Stick,i am surprised it worked with only insualting the fuel line inbetween the cyls but am glad it did the trick in your bikes case.

I havent had any cabr puke since i insualted the enitre fuel sysem 3k miles ago including recently ridng in plenty of upper 95 deg HHH weather . Had 2 hotter days with i day @ 103 & another day @ 102 deg F HHH days ,it was brutal. But eve in those over 100 deg temps there was realy no carb puke but i did see 2 little droplets of fuel hanging off the end of the overflow hose that never dropped off onto the pavement in the above 100 deg temps,i still call that sccuess vs puking a lot of fuel all over the place in that situation without the insualtion.

If your bike pukes fuel in the future then you can complete the job by also dbl insulating the float bowl along with 1 layer insualtion on carb body where it wont interfear with throttle calbe etc too.

But i bet in hotter temps or bad traffic when shutting it down in hotter weather bove the 90 deg HHH tmeos you had good results in it will still likely puke fuel because you didnt insulate the complete fuel system . Thats esp true without 2bl insulating the float bowl and 1 layer of insualtion on main carb body where you can apply the insulation without interfearing with throttle cables etc on the carb which also just as important to insulate sa metal fuel ine inbetween the cyls IMHO.

I just wanted to ensure i retstated i dont feel in all cases just insualting the metal fuel line inbetween the cyls is going to ensure no carb puke all the time. To ensure no carb puke i feel the complete fuel susyem needs to ne insulated from extreem & or constatnt heat just the way i described it should be done along with using the same hi quality hi perf 2k deg insulating material or all bets are off for eliminating all carb puke in most cases which is the main point i wanted to make here.

Ganain,If your bike does puke fuel in the future in higehr then mid 90 temps you could then insulate the carb & float bowl which wouldlikely take care of it for good at that point.

BTW,did you also extend the overflow hose below the bike to keep fuel off the hot motor in case it puke's fuel again?

But thanks for trying it and posting your results here.
