1BADAD I've got some info saved in a document for PM question. (Yeah, not the fastest typer) Hope it's OK to throw it up here.
If not yell at me and I'll edit it off.

First of all got the idea from Danny (hardone2get) who was the first one I saw do this. His setup was with freedom pipes. He sent me pics of his setup and "How-to". So special thanks to him!

The exhaust on my Roady is made up of Bassani Head Pipes they come with brackets for their own mufflers. I used their brackets and modified the stock Roadstar mufflers to fit to duals using the TOP muffler off two sets.

The Bassani head pipes leave the mufflers stick out past the rear fender. I shortened the pipes by about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2". For some reason slightly more from the left side than the right to make them even at the fender tip. This also makes the heat shields longer as they are not cut and they slide back into the stock muffler front cover hiding the slip joint.

Some pics with notations in a photobucket album here:
http://s475.photobucket.com/albums/rr111/rphazen/Roadstar/Roadstar%20Exhaust/

I like the sound but I really wanted a quieter system than a lot of people might want. I had drilled out the stock mufflers to a stage 1 before I went to this exhaust. So there is a little more rumble than stock.

I think with the Bassani head pipes they are not louder but deeper (lower tone). Hard to tell for absolutely sure from December (the start of "mod season" till March when I wrapped the mods for the season.

I hear other bikes pull away from a light with considerably louder exhaust and I cringe. Just too loud for me. Getting old and wimpy!!!

Another option would be to find a set of Harley touring mufflers. DocShadow is working on that. They would slip on to the 1.75" Bassani pipes and then hang them with your own mod. The HD touring mufflers are bout 29.5" long. That's about 1" shorter than the Roadstar muffler with the new slipjoint welded on. The HD mufflers are usually pretty cheap on ebay. I don't know how to drill the HD mufflers, guess we would have to check out the HD forums for that.

Some discussion about HD mufflers on this post:
http://roadstarclinic.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,187/func,view/id,392923/catid,49/limit,10/limitstart,0/

Probably too much info,
Rod

No problems here rphazen, my explanation was a crash course, I'll hand down any knowledge that I have (what little I do). I would do it for them if we weren't all scattered around the world, lol. My wifes always telling me we need to get a business so I could stay home and work Hahaha. Plus what we've accomplished is a way to get the dual exhaust for half the cost, and looks damn good too!! IMHO

Btw I like your avatar pic, did you make it? I've still yet to figure out how to create one from one of my pics. Also hard to do from a phone (no pc)

Thanks for the complements guys, I also removed the ais before installation, turned and polished my own plugs. I'll try to get more pics as the project goes on.

I'll second that. Or even with 1 muffler like the Strats and the new V-Stars.

Yeah, doing this from the phone is a challenge. As soon as I try to get too fancy with a post from the phone I mess it up.

There's a help post somewhere here about the avatar. I'm at work and better not kill too much time looking.

My avatar pic was roughly based on the Easy Rider logo. Made changes to make it look more like a Roadstar, mainly mine! I used Inkscape which is a free Vector Graphics Editor like Corel Draw.

OK, so hardbags are next. What hardbags are ya putting on?

Great thing about those Bassani headers is the availability of the long pipes with Sharktails! JMO

I got a sweet deal from a guy I work with, he bought them for a future hd build, but they sat in his garage for two years. So I talked him into selling them to me, he let me have them for two bills! Got the latches, hinges, and the bottom mounts. Didn't get the locks cuz the guy he got them from kept them so nobody would have a key to his '09 roadking. I've been studying the bag mounts that ss custom cycle and baddad has for sale, I thought hell I can make those, wife says just buy them but I told her why pay $400 for them when I can do it for under a hundred. Jokingly I said why don't I just buy a mandrel bender and start making them to sell, she said go for it! I just want to get my r* looking like I want her too! Sorry if I'm rambling on just got off work, I'm tired but my mind is running a hundred mph thinking about the things I want to do to my r*

Those big Yamaha cans are pretty heavy. Is there any wobbling too bad when it's running? I don't plan on any bags so I'd be running them like yours are now. If it ain't too much trouble can you take a quick sound clip or video (oystersucker@yahoo.com) of that thing? I've been wanting duals forever and I think those look the best.
