Hi, and now a few questions 1 Year, 4 Months ago
Hey all, I just picked up a 03 Roadstar 1600. Very nice shape low miles. Really looking forward to getting out and riding. Ok now the questions, are all Roadstars cold blooded? What is a good exhaust(has cobra slash cut on right now) not too loud. Any problems or issues I should know about? Where is a good supplier of quality after market parts? Thanks and I will post some pics soon. Seth

Glad you joined us!

Yes, the carb Roadstars are cold blooded. Exhaust is a varied question. Not heard a lot of good things about the Cobra concerning quality. I love my V&H powershots.
Check out Crusier Customizing , Phat Performance, JP cycles, Barons to name a few for assy parts.

Tuned properly they shouldn't be any harder to warm up than any other carb'd bike out there.

Hey Seth, welcome aboard!

Yes, RoadStars are a bit on the cold blooded side. Just ride it with the enricher pulled out for a bit, and begin to push it in a little at a time, until after about 2 or 3 minutes, and it should be fine.

The best exhaust for power would be a 2 into 1 set-up. I have the Vance & Hines Pro-Pipe, but as for sound, it becomes a bit more subjective. Whatever you like. The best I think I've heard yet was the stock mufflers totally gutted... called the Stage 3 mod.

Issues? Trans recall for one major one. Chances are it's been done. On the neck by the VIN look for a punch mark. If it's there, it's done. Or call the dealer and have them cross check the VIN. Exhaust are a preference thing. There'll be a lot of suggestions and direction for mods.

If I were to change exhaust this is what I would do.

Seth give the VIN number to a dealer and have them check to see if the tranny recall has been done. Pipes are subjective if you like loud Bub Stubbies or Jug Huggers are loud so are Vance & Hines Short Shots. You can hear mine on my site I have both Bub's on my 05 and 07. To run the bike in the cold a couple of twists of the throttle will squirt some fuel and start it on full choke after a few second you can take off and ride for a block or two and push it to half choke. After about 2 miles push the choke all the way in and ride like a fool.
