Anyone installed an Air/Fuel Gauge on FI bike? 4 Months, 1 Week ago
On a fuel injected (2008+) bike are the existing O2 sensors wideband? Can you tap into them for the feed to an Air/Fuel gauge or do you need to install a 2nd set of O2 sensors specifically for the gauge?

If anyone has installed an AF gauge on your FI RoadStar would welcome your thoughts on the subject. I'm about to install new pipes and air kit and want to get this gauge on my bike while it's still stock. I am interested in comparing the readings stock vs. pipes vs. pipes and air kit. I'm a skeptic on just how lean the bike will run with the new mods and whether the fuel mgt. ECU is truly worth the investment...

Thanks,
Rob

The stock sensors are narrow band. The AF gauge only comes with one wide band O2 sensor. I guess you could install 2 with a switch so you could monitor each cylinder if you wanted.

Yamaha has told me though that the engine will run lean if the AIS is removed. It'll be interesting to see what you find out.

Extensive testing has been done by many owners in the old trusted way, a plug reading. I've had my '08 since the fall of '08 and most of that time it has had the AIS removed, a K&N BAK and Speedstar (V&H) dragster long pipes. The plugs always come out a pretty light brown just like they should. The pipes do have the bungs and the O2 sensors are hooked up. All the rest is stock and it works like a champ. If it was problematic I sure as hell would know it by now. I have plenty of both city and highway miles on it. The fact is that Yamaha built a very robust EFI system! Ya'll have fun now.

I've ordered the latest Yamaha FI manual. I'll be reading it completely to see what it says.

Scott, obviously you are a yamaha mech, I ride a 08 and I have just taken it apart to do the full speedstar stage III upgrade. Is there any tech info avail that I may need to know before I complete the assy and startup.

Thanks, Pigpen

Pigpen - I had thought those Stage 1-4 Speedstar upgrades were for a carb'd bike pre Fuel Injection? The clutch spring in the kit only fits Road Star bikes 1999-2007?

Other than pipes and air box I didn't think Speedstar/Yamaha made any additional performance upgrade parts for the 2008 and up FI bikes?

Thanks,
Rob

They did make speedstar throttle bodies, I know someone that got a great deal on one. My dealer told me about a month ago, that they did stop the speedstar line. As far as the heads and cams, could very well be what is still left on the open market and none from factory anymore?
