They make what's called a NC (normally closed) relay that could be installed in the headlight ground wire with the positive trigger wire going back to the starter side of the starter relay or even just down to the starter post. That way when the starter button is pushed the headlight would be turned off.

Some relays have 2 posts, one normally closed and the other normally open.

Might help with some slow crank situations, I don't know. The headlight only draws about 5 amps.

TS, I'm assuming that I couldn't use a standard 4-post relay for this. Do you have a link to a picture of a NC Relay?

No I don't have a link Ricohoc. Either a 4 post NC or a 5 post NC/NO relay would work.

Maybe they started in '06. On my '99 the headlight dims some when the starter is engaged.

If you're going to use a toggle switch then it doesn't need to be fused. Interrupt the ground wire, that way the switch will turn the light off whether it's on high or low beam. Same with the relay - use the ground wire.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Really would like to get more juice on starting -- even though my Maxair FlameWire cables have made a huge difference already!

Thanks, TS1!

I had a dozen of those 4-post relays shipped here last month. Should be good to go.
