Cleaning / polishing your RS 3 Months, 4 Weeks ago
I'd like to do a better job at keeping the RS clean this year. I know it's a constant battle to keep the bug splatter off the chrome and have appropriate chrome polish to make it look brilliant. But are there any easy products (tools and/or spray ons) you use to clean the fins on the engine? Or is it just a toothbrush with soap and water (and hours and hours of sitting while enjoying a brew or two or three or four...)?

Thanks for any suggestions-
Ron

S100 engine bright for the engine and these products for the rest of it, Dry Wash N Guard, for everything and to seal it, Premium Metal Polish, and Oxygone use the Oxygone and Metal Polish mixed together to remove pipe bluing, rust, and scratches from chrome. They are expensive but car and bike show buff use it before a show. http://www.driwashsolutions.com/ I've won two first places and a second using them.

I have a power washer with 4500psi. That does a good job and only takes a minute or two. Then I blow the water off with my aircompressor. Works like a charm.

+1 Pressure washer (not as strong as lucky's)/leaf blower; also have a 15 year old that always needs money she gets to clean the spokes, fins all the stuff the pressure washer doesn't

"0000" (super fine) steel wool & an old tee shirt.
It's not high-tech or expensive, but it does an excellent job.

Of course every bikers has is own recipe to clean his precious ride and I’m embarrassed to say that I’m a bit anal when it comes to keep my bike shiny!

I try as much as possible to clean my ride thoroughly after each ride. It's simple, a bucket full of warm water with 2 capful of Turtle Zip Wax and microfiber rags, wipe it dry and then apply Mother’s Spray Wax on paint and chrome, it does a great job keeping dust off bike.

For the engine I use Simple Green Max automotive cleaner & degreaser (only spray on cold engine) this stuff penetrates every corners and keep engine looking like new, great for getting rid of bug splatter, no needs for scrubbing, I also use it for my spoke. Then it’s rince off time with a simple garden hose, it’s quite sufficient IMO, always kept far from those pressure washer as they have a tendency to eleminate all grease necessary to the forward controls, bearings, axles, etc. and perhaps damage the wiring.

And once in a while, I use the old Armour All trick for my rubbers.

My 2¢!
