Vendor warning!!! TJD Customs 1 Year, 4 Months ago
I normally don't choose to engage in bashing of companies however I have had the most brutal consumer experience I have ever encountered while dealing with TJD Customs. I decided to check them out based on the comments of another RSC member, but I advise you to think twice before you consider ordering from them. On 12/27 I called to ask questions about their batwing fairing. According to their web site it would fit a Roadstar and came with all the quick release hardware needed to mount it. I called to verify these points and was assured that short of paint it was fully ready to be installed. So, for 250 plus shipping of 75 = 325 plus paint I would be all set. I ordered it on 12/28/11 and was promptly charged and received a confimation e-mail. After over two weeks, 5 emails and 6 calls all to voice mail and no replies I left a last message that if I was not provided with shipping information I was going to cancel my order. I got a call back in 5 minutes from the owner blaming it all on his staff. He assured me I would have my shipping the next day, but it still took two more days, another phone call and a text message to get it. The package arrived today 1/25 nearly a month after being ordered. Upon opening it, my first impression was it was a little less finished than I expected but looked sturdy and reasonably well made. I then looked for the hardware and found two rusted pieces of "L" shaped metal and nothing else. No instructions, not even pre-drilled holes for mounting either the hardware or the windshield; nada. I decided I would try to dry fit it to the bike only to discover the opening was 8 inches for a 8 1/2 inch stock head light. When I called to complain I was told I didn't know what I was doing and the owner had personally installed one on a roadstar. According to him, the opening is slightly over 8 1/2 inches. Not so on the piece I got. I asked if I could have been shipped the wrong one and was told that was impossible since he only has one. Five minutes later he reversed himself and said "Oh, you ordered the universal not the Harley; both will fit your bike but the Harley works better since it sits flush. The one you have has to be mounted over the headlight." I did so to see and there was nearly 10 inches of fairing "tunnel" in front of the headlight. I commented this was equivilent to giving a man with a 48" waist a pair of size 30 jeans and saying "they fit; you just need to wear them around your knees". I was then offered a Harley fairing instead. I said I would prefer my money back including my shipping. I was told I would need to pay to ship it back and I would not be getting the orginal shipping back either so in total based on his bad information both on his site and on the phone I will be out $150. This man is by far one of the worst businessmen I have ever dealt with! Buyer Beware!

Sorry to hear about what happened to you. Happened to me with Meancycles too, so I know how you feel. That sucks man. Try Reckless. I got one from them and had no problems with them.

Appreciate the heads up, EddieDe!

Sorry you had so many problems. I certainly don't need issues like that with things being shipped here to Thailand.

I am waiting to hear back from the owner again today to see how he intends to handle this but based on his text messages and conversation on the phone he is expecting me to be the one that is out all the shipping costs both ways and he will still have the fairing to sell to someone else, Net cost to him $0 net cost to me $150+.

Did you use your credit card for the purchase ? if so, contact your credit card company & do a charge back based on uncompatible part for your bike. explain the part does not fit your bike.use the example of the pants fitting if only worn at the kneese. they should allow you to charge back the cost + the original shipping cost. if you have any text messages or emails from the vendor, SAVE them. they will come in handy if the vendor disputes the charge back.

I did use a credit card and they said if he won't refunded the full amount they will do so and take it from his account. In that case I'm only out my shipping back still stinks but not as bad.

The vendor will have the opportunity to dispute the charge back with the credit card. most of the time this is where the card holder (you) will have to prove a item is defective, faulty or incompatible. the text messages and or emails will hold water vs. he said, he said. I'd recommend having a paper trail with vendor expressing the fairing must sit above the headlight instead around the headlight before you did a charge back. I know losing money due to shipping back sux. but, it better loose a few apples than to lose the entire tree.
