Starting my 31 tooth this weekend 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Alright I am getting my parts in today and I wanted to go over things to make sure I got everything.

31 tooth pulley: I have a 36 mm socket, torque specs are 61 lbs, lock tite, shouldn't need a new belt, and I am assuming I'll need to tighten it up though...? I also have an impact wrench for removal.

Dyna 3000: The main thing a lot of people told me was to be sure and cut out a window for the switches.

Which brings me to a question. Can anyone recommend what settings I should use on it? I have an 03 1600, BAK, and VH longshots. I dont know what I should set all switches to. I found the chart in the tech section but it didnt really say what to set them to for certain mods...

Thanks everyone.

dingo,

It may not work for you, but did on both of my R*s. I was able to just put the wheel all the way back in the adjustment slots on the swingarm, and got the right tension both times. I then did some minor tweeking to assure alignment.

As for the Dyna. It's pretty much set-it and forget-it, so the cutting of a window in the rubber battery box is totally optional, and I didn't.

It's been some time, so I don't remember all the switches, but on a 1600, setting for a 5,000 rpm limit with 34 degrees of advance has been the most common recommendation here on the Clinic, and so, that's what I went with, and it works just fine for me.

Others?

Bump....

on the 31 tooth adjustment as stated by Questcap

Dyna 3000 switches set @ 5,000 rpm and 34a for a 1600, ride it like you stole it...

I did installed the 31 on my 1600.I did not like it at all.it makes the bike to fuzzy,i have the dyna 3000 on.the dyna with the 33 is a smooth ride,it takes a longer to reach the high rpms.with the 31 feels like I don't have a dyna on.
I thought the acceleration will improve drastically but it didn't,accelarates quicker but also you reach your top rpms quicker.
I going to put the 33 back this weekend and sale the 31 on ebay.
The thing with the pulleys is about taste, I prefer stay longer on the gear than shift constantly

because yer running too lean is why yer fuzzy.... yer demanding more fuel usage with the 31 tooth,
run a main jet #190 dj or a mikuni main #180 on e-clip #2 second with an after market airbox try a mikuni main #195 same needle setting.

I wanted the 31 tooth for two reasons. First, I do an awful lot of back-road cruising at between 35 and 45, and I was forever shifting up and down between third and fourth gears. I hated it.

With the 31 tooth, I can get to 4th, and just leave it there.

Second, I thought it required just a bit more clutch slippage to launch than I was liking, so I knew I'd get a quicker and easier launch with the 31, and I most certainly do.

I didn't get any more vibration, or less, by switching pulleys, and gas mileage didn't appear to be affected in the least... so, I've been very happy with the conversion. I also put a Speedo-Healer on both bikes and set it for an 11% conversion, and they're spot-on!

I didn't even think of the speedo being off now! About how many MPH's is it off now without fixing it?

I do a mixture of riding (backroads and highway) but it drives me nuts having to shift all the time so I think I will be happy with it.

I used to have to shift a lot on back roads as well but with the 3000 and the HSR 45 I can accelerate quite well from 45 mph in 5th gear. If I am in 4th on the back road I don't have to go down to 3rd any more and that is with stock pulleys.
