The light bar on my '07 broke last year on our return trip from Canada. I used some hose clamps to hold it in place until I could replace it. The weld looked good. It just broke. I don't think the year it was manufactured matters as much as the number of miles it sat up there getting stressed by engine vibration. I had 55K miles on my bike when mine broke.

I had just left my house one day and saw my lamp fall and hang by the wiring. It was a cold weld on the bracket. It looked like a clean beveled piece of metal.

So I wonder if I should buy a light bar knowing full well that it might break, or should I buy one already welded? (I think I saw one recently for sale that has already been welded.

Just buy one that is already broke. Why trust any weld? I think it is just like anything that is welded, most are Ok and only a few have had issues. As many members here that have lightbars and we have only heard of a few with bad welds, I think that is pretty good.

I was considering the Yamaha’s at first but after reading many bad reviews all over the net about the bar breaking in half and bad welds, it left me wondering. But on the other hand, I recently heard that Yamaha has improved the quality and thickness of the bar and they’re the least expensive on the market.

Nevertheless I will probably go with the more expensive Show Chrome driving light instead because of the no hassle no welds cast aluminum housings design and I like the fact that all wiring is routed internally unlike the Cobra light bar.

My 2˘!

For the guys that have seen this happen, did the crack down the middle of the weld or crack along the mount/bar surface? I ask because mine cracked today, all 3 welds right through the center of the welds. Trying to get Yamaha to warranty it since it's only a month/800 mi old. Luckily if that fails I have a good welder just down the road.
