Stripped Oil Gallery Bolt 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
The title says it all

One of my first winter mods was installing an oil pressure guage. It now appears that I have stripped out the 8mm gallery bolt. Fired the bike up for the first time since installing a month ago and I now have a steady drip of oil from the gallery bolt. Can't torque the bolt down anymore than it already is. Just looking for your opinions on what options I have. Can I drill out the 8mm hole to a 10mm and retap it? A new oil pan (what's that cost )?

I had just installed my new HSR 42 today too

Helicoil should do the trick. Local parts houses have them.

For clarification, see gallery bolt below (item 1).

the only issue I would have with the heli coil is that you have to drill out the hole to .397 and then tap, thats a lot of metal chips.
buddy it sucks to be you and you didn't get to try out the bike with the 42?

Nope, but with Curt's ported manifold and the 42, she sounded wonderful

See if you can retread it and put a 10 mm in it or find a longer 8 mm and put couple of copper washers. I had a similar situation at a different location and had to use a heli coil it was a very tight spot.

I have a 8mm at 25mm length in it already. That's about as long as it can go. Sounds like drilling it out to 10mm is a good bet. Geesh, and I was worried about a manifold leak...figures.

moreland4 I don't know if you have done anything like this but if you haven't buddy get that bike jacked up as high as you can and make sure you drill out the old treads as perfectly centered as possible and the same with the tap and don't use a drill do a hand job bubba because if everything is not right you may have a sealing problem.
good luck on this journey
