What about repurposing an old alarm clock's hands?

Wow, thanks for all the replies everyone. Ok, so I got it krazy glued together, then I actually used a drill bit to just smooth out the inside of the needle's receptacle. Then I used contact cement to glue it onto the metal needle.
This all appears to have worked - when I turn on the ignition, the needle goes to zero, max, and back. However, it then jumps to 20kms, and doesn't appear to move from there when bike is in motion (although admittedly, I'm not moving that far with all the ice and snow outside).
I guess my newbie question is - does this indicate some other problem, or is this normal and I just need to get the bike over 20kms?
Thanks,
Ian

Hey I'm a die maker and I have some stainless steel shim stock,if you can't get that to work then let me know.I'll mail you a piece, let me know how thick;and you can do your own thing as far as making one.
If you go with the watch thing ,just don't take mickey's arms off.

Thanks Curt! It totally worked, and in fact, was probably a good time to pull off the needle. The cement had mostly set, but made it a nice tight fit to get back on. No jumping now! This worked really well. So happy, yet mad that you can't just buy a needle!
Oh well, now I have a perfectly working Road Star for which I paid nearly nothing. Can't wait for the snow to be gone!
