OEM K&N Air Filter 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I am looking to replace my stock air filter with the OEM K&N filter for my 2005 and I plan to run the stock exhaust for a while. Will this require any carb ajustment?

Nope you'll be fine. If you change the air cleaner allowing a lot more air in and run aftermarket or modified stock exhaust is when the carb needs to be adjusted.

Just got my OEM K&N filter today. WOW really cleans up the throttle response and no more decel pop. I have Roadhouse duals and I am jetted. One thing I found is the rubber tube that connects inside the air cleaner cover to the filter is now a little short so I just spliced a piece of tubing and it fits snug now.

If you're still looking to buy I have a K&N filter with flamed chrome cover for sale in excellent condition. Give me a shout if you're interested, cheers...Major

Actually the reason I am going with the OEM K&N is because I like the stock "1\0/2" cover that came with the bike...thanks anyways

If your cover looks like the one in the lower left corner of the pic below then that isn't a stock cover. It's a $200 accessory from Yamaha. Mine had one on it when I got it also and I like it so much that I installed the K&N replacement filter and opened up the case to breathe better.

Sapper, One thing I did find out about the K&N stock replacement filter is that if the crankcase vent is routed to the air box it'll make a mess in the bottom of the filter element. At normal cruising speeds there just isn't enough air flow to force any mist from the crankcase vent up to the carburetor.

One of the members extended the hose inside the filter so it was at the mouth of the carburetor in order to keep that from happening.

BBMS, Yes that is exactly what I have. How did you open up the case more?

tex, not sure what you mean about crankcase vent hose. However, I did notice twice while cleaning the air box that there was some oil in there and wondered/worried where it came from...

mine has two hoses: one big hose which I believe is crankcase vent and one small hose that goes into top of carb. Can you explain what these do? That might clear up what you mean about extending the hose which I believe you are referring to the bigger of the two
