Ammo Boxes? 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Since I turned my bike into a bobber, I have no saddlebags nor any way to install saddlebags. Most of the things that I would carry on a ride would be small. I am thinking of taking ammo boxes and somehow attaching one to each side of the swing arm and one in front of the oil filter. I really need one big enough to carry my Bible in to church. I was thinking of putting a spacer between a piece of flat metal, drilling a hole in the box and flat iron and running the bolt through the spacer so that the lid will have room to open. I guess my question is what is the biggest ammo box made vs what is the biggest ammo box that you think I can use to bolt onto the swing arm. I have very short exhaust that do not reach the swing arm so the exhaust would not be in the way.

.50 cal ammo box is pretty big. I don't know if you can find a 40mm grenade belt box.

easyrider,

I can't help with your question, but I wanted to think you for mentioning ammo boxes. Ammo boxes would go great with a theme bike painted OD Green with the white star, and ammo boxes for the saddlebags.

My roadie might be in for a new paintjob soon.....

I ordered 1 50 cal box. Should be here within 3-5 days, installed in about a week. Ill try to post pics when I get a chance. I am using the boxes as saddlebags. Hopefully they will also be big enough to somehow get 2 days worth of food in them. Maybe I will have to put food in ziplock bags to cut down on storage space. I work 48 hours on 24 hours off. Would it be in the way to have 1 box installed in front of oil filter. Don't want anything overheating.

The thing about ammo boxes is if they are in good shape they are waterproof, air proof and dang near indestructable! and they will last forever.

I don't think I would use ammo cans. They are going to rattle like crazy especially with stuff in them. That would drive me nuts. Not to mention mounting them to the swing arm where they are going to take every bump unsprung. I don't know what your bike looks like, but I have a tunnel bag that fits on the back fender or seat and holds plenty of stuff. Can be detached quickly if need be and worn as a backpack. I will try to post a picture or link.
