I think ammo can saddlebags on a military themed R* would be ultra cool! Can't wait to see the finished product.
One thing you need to be careful about mounting a bag in front of the oil filter your fender/ wheel could hit it, it may not when sitting but a good bump on the road will compress the springs and bam!....don't ask how I know

Two things that turned me off from the ammo can idea is that they were too rugged for my nice and shiny bike and they are really stinking heavy I got my hands on a brand new 40mm ammo can and it had plenty of storage capacity but I decided on a sissy bar bag that was much lighter with almost the same storage capacity.
