Lucas Oils Safeguard ethanol fuel additive 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Has anyone tried this product? Claims to protect against damage from ethanol in gasoline and increase fuel mileage.

Just wondering...

Lucas products are really good stuff. I used their top-end and cylinder lubricant in my souped-up XS650 (turned 750) but my Roadstar seems to prefer the Marvel Mystery Oil in every-other tank better. In my neck of the woods, our winter has been very mild and I've ridden all winter (NW Ohio), so I haven't had to worry about keeping fuel for any length of time. If your fuel isn't sitting for more than a week or so, I wouldn't worry about ethanol and stabilizing. If you want top-end lubrication, I think you'd be better off with MMO, Lucas top-end and cylinder lubricant (runs rich), or Seafoam...

====================

For max protection I use Sta-Bil's dark blue colored " Marine Grade " fuel stabilizer for the same application, you could also use Sta-Bil's std red colored fuel stabilizer too.

They have dialy use and extended/seasonal storrage doseing instructions.

Have always had good results with the stabil product when treating fresh fuel prior to storrage or for daily use in my R*,classic motorcycles, and classic car too.

Have no experience using the Lucas fuel additve product.

I've used it and nothin blew up But I guess that you really only know if it DOESN'T work by the exploded engine

I use the ethanol additives primarily in 2-stroke motors which are more prone to damage from ethanol

I don't know about the stabilizer stuff but I use the 20w50 Lucas Motorcycle oil and Lucas motorcycle additive.......... period!!!!. Use to be an Amsoil guy all the way but Amsoil priced themselves out of my wallet. Good oil no doubt about it, but not that good for the outrageous price per quart. Been using Lucas for the last 40,000 miles and never looked back. HIGHLY recommended. My 2007 is now pushing 81,000 miles and going strong. Lone*Road*

I use on every tank. No problems, I had to put my four wheelers and boat in the shop and the mechanic said the ethanol was the culprit on the carb. We have one gas station on the other end of town that has ethanol free. I try to run it as much as possible in all my vehicles

I use it every fill up. 1 oz. per fill up. No problems as of yet. I prefer it to the starbrite and the sta-bil is too much $ for me when I don't think it is a superior product. ETHANOL kills engines. (period). At least that is what I have read. I use the LUCAS in my mower, dirt bike, chainsaw, weed trimer. It's universal. I just hope my car can take the ethanol. If the gov. goes to 15% at the pumps, I might just use it in my car too.

FWIW, I'm beginning to see ads for an STP fuel stabilizing product that, again, according to the ad, has superior stabilizing capabilities to Sta-Bil and Lucas.

Oddly enough though, I went to the STP website to see if I could find their own new product there, and couldn't!

I read an article about Lucas over the weekend, since the game was held in the stadium to which he'd bought naming rights. In it, he says that he would browse chemical dump lots and ask what was in each drum. He supposedly found what became his chief product in one of those lots and began producing it for retail sale. He also says no one can analyze it, and say what all is really in it! Finally, he says the FTC has been to him and checked out his claims against his product's capabilities and never been fined.

To all of which, I say... yeh, right.

Use the right oil. Buy a good regular grade of gasolene, and burn through it in a reasonable amount of time. Pray for the end of ethanol subsidies and 10% gasahol!

Long live the Road Star!
