There is an article or two about creating your own backrest bracket but not sure if anyone has made their own pad. I think a few have had them recovered though.

Unless you are looking for something custom it is cheaper to find one on eBay. It can be done though. A piece of wood, leather or vinyl, padding, T-Nuts, fasteners, some upholstery skills and it can be all you ever imagined

Yup I made mine. It made no sense to me that the tall sissy bar is shaped like a paperclip and the pad is an almost round donut. I scribed a piece of plywood to follow the outline of the sissy bar, put inserts in it to bolt to then hauled it to the upholstery shop. Looks factory and is just the width of the sissy bar and comes down almost to the seat.

That's just what I was thinking! The pad should be the same or similar in shape to the backrest bar.
