14mm drain plug 4 Years, 7 Months ago
I'm not breaking any new ground here, as some have already made the switch to a 14mm magnetic drain plug (I did last oil change). Here's the good news, It is now super easy to drain the oil from the motor with the bike on the side stand, no tool modification required. Just stick a regular 14mm wrench on there and it's out, plain and simple. Almost Embarrassing, it's so easy. For any of you who do your own oil changes (and I know that's a lot of us........this is a clinic after all), you know the headache of trying to get that 17mm plug out of there by yourself. All a thing of the past.

Plug is a 14mm head, 1.50 thread pitch , FYI. And yes, there was a little "stuff" on the magnet, but that's to be expected. Hope this helps, BB.

I got mine at Advanced auto, but I'm sure most auto parts supply houses have them. It was on a rack that held not only misc. oil plugs, but also the gasket/washers that replace worn ones for the plugs. For 3 bones, it's well worth it from the headache standpoint. BB

No sweat. I've got 15,000 miles on my 06 now, I've done.....6 oil changes so far, this last one was by far the easiest. This trick (which I got from Doc, I think), is the best thing you can do for yourself to make oil changes a snap. BB

You could mount it on a piece of wood and retire it to the wall

Sell on it Ebay along with the guys that sell the owners manual on CD and the 14mm magnetic plugs. I just shake my head when I see guys on there selling 14mm plugs for $10 and $3 shipping. I don't think I could sleep at night knowing I was ripping off fellow riders.
