Just wanted to double check the 4 qt oil change 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Don't want to start an oil debate or nothing like that, but I just want to be sure on only adding 4 qts doing an oil change w/ filter. I just did it & 4 qts is good, no problems....right?
My previous oil change last year I tried doing the "proper method" of checking it & got totally screwed up. Added too much, let some back out, etc. So I wasn't sure what I really had in it & the way it's supposed to be checked is a joke (IMO). After reading posts about sticky vale syndrome, etc. I just decided to do it over and go to 4 qt. total w/ filter method.
Also I see some guys never check it, is that ok also?
Again I'm sorry if I start any debates & thanks in advance for any info/input.

Yep, drain both plugs. Change filter. Add 2 quarts to the oil tank fill. Start the bike for 15 seconds. Turn it off. Add 2 quarts to the oil tank fill. Close it up and walk away.
If you *MUST* check the oil level. Here is the procedure:

It's 4 qts for those prone to svs. What were they, '05 to '07s? Earlier ones can run the 4.3 qts.
And, I need to tell you, my best friend followed the "rule" of not checking, and somehow managed to burn through his oil, and seize the oil pump.
$2,200 later, he's riding it again... you might want to try checking it from time to time. If it's anywhere in the cross-hatch pattern on the stick, after the proper shut-down proceedure, you're good!

Actually the 04s and 05s were the start of the svs...dont ask how I know The first 1700 roadie were the worst.
Also, I dont check my level either because I change it regularly and have no leaks. If you use the dipstick you'll have a different reading every time. Drove me nuts for a couple years before I was able to button it up and leave it alone.
