I put the progressive springs front and rear and also went with 10 wt shock oil. All I can say is what a difference. I went out looking for bumps to see what it would do. I never bottomed out it felt very balanced.

So if you are considering doing this mod don't wait it's well worth the money.

Sounds like another project when I change the fork oil. First time ever heard of looking for bumps on purpose.

Its a quick easy and fairly cheap mod cant wait to try mine out i went 7wt but i wonder if 10wt would have been better i did the lowering progressive springs so i was affaid to go to firm. How much firmer would you say your ride is Up front

I went with just 10w and kept the stock springs...it firmed the front up quite a bit. Not to much though...just right in my opinion.

I agree it sounds odd but it got cold here again so I didn't have a lot of miles to figure out if it was better or not.

It is certainly firmer but the biggest thing I noticed is the fork dive is gone. The best way I can say is that it seems to soak up the bumps much better. I don't get that hard jolt like before.

I used 7wt oil with my progressive and was very pleased with the result, not really firm but it just felt much better, more controllable.

According to the services manual:

Front fork leg oil level a
(from the top of the inner tube,
with the inner tube fully compressed,
    and without the fork
    spring)
    110 mm (4.33 in)
    Recommended oil
Yamaha fork and shock oil 5WT
    or equivalent

That's for the stock spring, however, the for the progressive, I believe it's more like 5", it will tell you in the instructions when you get your springs. While the height is important, what's more important is that both for tubes are identical. That said, for me it turned out to be just enough to cover the top of the washer/spacer on top of the spring.

As for oil weight, 5WT is fine, but some people chose to go with 7WT or 10WT if they want a firmer ride.
