I'm starting to get a good laugh out of this thread... Shamrock's no doubt right, you're all over every noise and vibration now. I would be, too.

Don't try any flush product, they're for cutting varnish and sludge, and won't do anything to help metallic material move to the drain plug hole.

JUST run it, and do another oil change after a couple hundred miles. The filter likely did its job, and the change will get the last available junk out.

About a month ago, my shift pedal shaft, sheared off about 70 miles from home. I managed to rig something up to get me home, but it meant I had to start off in third gear and ride home using only third and forth. As a result, my clutch gave out on me *just* as I was pulling into my driveway. It turns out I fried my clutch so bad that the friction compound on several plates disintegrated; leaving nothing but the bear metal plates and all the crispy fried friction compound inside the clutch housing. I removed as much as of the "grit" I could find when I replaced the clutch and did not find any in the oil when I drained it however, I'm beginning to wonder if any of the friction material that got away, is now circulating in my motor and causing *serious* irreparable damage. Like fried bearings or scored cylinders or worse. I obviously replaced the oil and filter when I replaced the clutch. but is there anything else I should have done, or should do, or should be concerned about? And if so, short of tearing down my engine, is there anything I can do? I put everything back together and hoped for the best, but every so often, I feel like the motor is running real rough. Did I screw the pooch?

Any oil under pressure get filtered first. Unless you've got a cheapy filter and it bypasses quickly, you should be good.

If in doubt, change the filter again. Its a cheap and easy thing to do.

I run Bosch filters. FYI- Called the dealer just to be sure, and they said the same. Should be OK, oil gets filtered first. Just replace oil and filter, run for a couple hundred miles and repeat.

You sneaky so 'n' so. You found a different way to get another discussion about oil started. Let the beatings begin.

As far as cutting the filter open, are you suggesting to check for metal shavings or just the clutch material?

Clutch material.

Actually it was heat. The plates got so hot that it literally *fried* the friction material, turning it into black carbon crumbs that just separated from the plates. So I guess you could say it broke off. In spots were the material was still on the plates, I could crumble it off with my fingers. To get an idea what it looked like, Just take a look inside the crumb trap on the bottom of your toaster or more accurately, the black stuff that accumulates in the bottom of a deep fryer..
