Gear oil questions 1 Year, 2 Months ago
Alright fellas, not wanting to start a war over oil types, etc. Just curious as to what weight, type and amount it takes to change the gear oil. And....... go!!

I always run the max that the manufacturer indicates on the side of the tire.....sometimes a couple of pounds more in the rear if i'm going to be loaded (I mean the bike not me )

I just bought a set of Michelin Commander II - front and rear - and the guy that put them on recommended 45 fromt and rear. I am running that right now and love the way it handles and rides......just as good if not better than metz.

BTW you should start a new thread and introduce yourself

Gl4 or GL5 75/90 syn. walmart brand, Mobil 1 , Royal purple all work.

As far as amount, if the bike is upright and not on the stand, take the small screw out that is located just below and to the right of the filler opening. As soon as a small seep of oil comes out...it's full. No need to measure doing it this way.

Good timing for this thread. Just changing mine for the 1st time (2000RS) using Mobil 1 Synthetic.

Question: I have two black plugs nearly side by side. Not one underneath like the owners manual shows. There was over a 1iter in there originally but was still well below either plug. What am I missing here?
