If we are bombing brown people and taking their oil why does it cost me $20 to fill my R* and I need a mortgage to fill my truck

supply and demand mate - one of the foundations of the capital system.

when the price per barrel goes up the price goes up at the pumps the next day or so, but when it goes down the oil companies say `oh, itīll take a month or so to see a price drop because we buy in advanceī. bottom line - we get shafted.

the refining process is easier and has a better return per barrel with diesel. now there are so many diesel vehicles on the road because people undestandably want better mpg, the price of diesel at the pumps is near as dammit the same as petrol. we get the shaft.

we need it, so weīre going to pay for it no matter what it costs. oil contracts donīt benefit us, they purely benefit the shareholders.

oh yeah, i forgot, anyone can become a shareholder

As long as this administration continues to print $$$ and devalue the dollar....the price of oil will continue to rise. Supply and demand doesn't seem to be a good argument considering US demand is down ...considerably, and they are shipping oil we drill to other countries instead of using it here to lower prices.

As a Libertarian I agree that the GOP makes an error of listening so closely to the Christian Evangelical movement.

I don't know that the current GOP or its leadership listens to anyone other than establishment Republicans who want to manage the decay of what our country has become.

I have great personal and philosophical disdain for the current cowardly GOP leadership.

I will add,
This country, especially over the last 50 years has been moving further and further away from the Judeo/Christian values that are the foundation for true conservatism, in an effort to find a sort of free society high ground. My personal feelings, are that the "free society high ground, is part of the utopian illusion, because of simple human nature. The analogy I've read regarding "The Commons", and how they are used by the individuals in the community, illuminates this better then most.
I believe some libertarian ideas, are embraced by the left and vice a versa in the area of religion, morality, and values, precisely because of the idea that, left to our own devices, we'll do the right thing by each other. I disagree with this, simply because of the word "fair".
It could be likened to a teenager who can't wait to get out of the house to make his own rules because he/she see themselves as smarter, only to see himself returning to the beliefs of his parents as he matures, and finds out that maybe they weren't quite as stupid as he/she thought. The prodigal son parable in the New Testament, is a good example of this thinking. Life is better when your surrounded by morals, values, and people who 'really' care about you, then it is living in a pig stye of societal decay.
Please excuse those who are unteachable to the end, from my analogy. Some people just love the stench, or are to stubborn. That is free will.
We aren't where we are as a nation, because our politicians have been slaves to the religious right, and craved conservative positions on the issues. Now that we're in deep doo-doo, everybody starting to say "hey! how come the politicians, are way over there, on the left".
The center has shifted so far left in the last 50 years, that it's impossible for some democrats to even recognize their own party.
My Uncle was what could be termed a "yellow dog democrat", until the day he died. He didn't attend church, but did have very strong feelings about whether there was or wasn't a God(he was willing to error on the side of "there is a God". I bring him up, because he was more conservative then probably 3/4's of those who claim their conservative republicans today.

We bomb little brown men around the world(most of whom, have no compunction whatsoever about bombing and killing us, because we get in their way), because it has fallen on the United States, to be the caretakers of Liberty and Freedom.
Freedom is a delicate candle. Not a raging conflagration of emotion like that found in socialism, communism, and Islam to mention just a few. Raging fires that consume commonsense, real hope, freedom and liberty as well as most anything else of value. I think the number, is something like 23% of those living in the colonies, actually supported this nations struggle for independence.
Ours is not a selfish and self centered country. We have always been generous. Other nations helped us in our struggle to be free. Hopefully, that will never stop...because, when we as a country decide that protecting freedom and liberty isn't the responsibility of those who possess it, ..we'll all lose it.
Everybody loves the idea of minding our own business. What happens to property values(and other things), when a drug dealer or pedophile sets up shop in the neighborhood?....all of a sudden, their business, becomes your business. Hopefully. You ignore it at your own peril, if you do.

iraq? brilliant job! now in a sectarian shitstorm with a govt we helped install rife with corruption.

afghanistan? same thing.

and you wonder why those same little brown men are pissed off at you? give you a clue - it isnīt because they hate your freedom or religion, and want to stop people eating mc donalds

I thought this thread was about the individual mandate and the extreme to which it can be taken if it is allowed to stand.

All of these off-topic drifts are dangerous to maintaining the integrity of the thread.

The Power of the Courts ~ Marbury v. Madison, 1803
The people made the Constitution, and the people can unmake it.
It is the creature of their will, and lives only by their will.

Chief Justice John Marshall, 1821

Although most of the Framers of the Constitution anticipated that the Federal judiciary would be the weakest branch of Government, the U.S. Supreme Court has come to wield enormous power with decisions that have reached into the lives of every citizen and resolved some of the most dramatic confrontations in U.S. history. The word of the Supreme Court is final. Overturning its decisions often requires an amendment to the Constitution or a revision of Federal law.

The power of the Supreme Court has evolved over time, through a series of milestone court cases. One of the Court's most fundamental powers is judicial review–the power to judge the constitutionality of any act or law of the executive or legislative branch. Some of the Framers expected the Supreme Court to take on the role of determining the constitutionality of Congress's laws, but the Constitution did not explicitly assign it to the Court. Marbury v. Madison, the 1803 landmark Supreme Court case, established the power of judicial review. From the modest claim of William Marbury, who sought a low-paying appointment as a District of Columbia Justice of the Peace, emerged a Supreme Court decision that established one of the cornerstones of the American constitutional system.

This mandate needs to be found "Unconstitutional"
I believe it will fall on their "Party Line Beliefs"
Which again will show how out of touch our Government is.
Though both (parties) are guilty. It's liberal Democrat's
who are destroying our freedoms.(my 2c)

We are a representative republic.
If enough people, can be convinced of the "fairness" of forcing those who can afford it, to pay for HC(or anything else) for those who can't, and they vote that sentiment at the pols, then a certain segment of the population, can be made slaves forever to other mens desires.
Let us hope, that the far reaching ramifications of what was attempted here, are seen for exactly what they represent by the SC justices, who will judge the constitutionality of this law.
Regrettably, there are at least four justices...one who has openly criticized our Constitutions lack of attention to "social justice",..... who are going to let their emotions and personal opinions of "fair", take precedent over the Constitution.

I've read at great length as to how and why "Obamacare" is Unconstitutional.

Can anyone provide evidence that would show me "Obamacare" is Constitutional?
