Just crossed off a possible bad signal fuse (it's good). The manual calls for a 10A signal fuse but mine had a 20A installed. Thought about switching it out but left it as is. I'll get to cleaning all the contact points later today and see if that makes a difference.

Probably the speed sensor.
I was fortunate that my dealer had a spare working speedo he let me use for a few days, when I still had the same issues we changed the speed sensor, haven't had issues for 130k miles.

Thanks Neil. I think I know the answer already but can they (dealership) test the speed sensor before I purchase a new one? Any idea how much these units cost?

Is the sensor behind the left side cover? If so, THAT is $100-$150?

Re:Speedo Trouble 1 Year, 2 Months ago
service manual shows no test procedure to test. And it's hard to explain where it is. it's in the back of motor, between motor and rear wheel if that makes any sense to ya. A pain to get too, fortunately mine was under a YES warranty. But a few others that changed them also had the erratic speed issue going on

Did some jetting on the 42 today. Took the bike for a test run and noticed the speedo had come back to life (for now). Time to clean that gremlin bell it seems. Thanks for all the replies.

thats how mine reacted, eventually got to the point where it happened everyday. Maybe a week or 2, was long time ago, bout 6yrs, bike only had about 10 or 15k at the time. Still had about 11 months of transferable YES.
