Doc--

Didn't you say this started relatively soon (within 50 miles) after you filled up your tank? Sounds like it could just be bad gas/water in the system like JDMAtt said.

If you really want to see if you've got a sticking valve (SVS), start the bike when it's cold/not warmed up and let the bike idle. Hold a piece of tissue at the very end of your pipes. If the tissue is getting sucked in at all instead of blown backward, that is a fair indicator that you've got a valve sticking. I had it real bad when I got mine and cleared it out with multiple cans of Seafoam and endless rejetting. Hasn't returned since, and that was 5 years ago...

Hope that helps!

Took the bike for a short 10 min ride and it actually felt like nothing was wrong. I'm going to take it out on the freeway later to see what happens. I did add some Mystery Oil, will that help at all? What about ring free? That stuff is supposed to be way stronger than Seafoam, would it help to do one of their shock treatments baed on the Yamalube recommendation?

When my 07 was running really bad last year, I posted similar indications to yours and everyone was telling me that it had the dreaded "SVS".

I ended up taking it to Lee's Cycle (they are a well respected race and performance bike shop in San Diego) and they said they have never heard of anything like SVS and couldn't imagine that actually happening (I am just repeating what they said, don't shoot me!!!).

Anyway, they re-jetted it on the dyno and did adjustments and it fixed the problems I was having at the time.

I am hoping that cleaning the carb and the jets will fix my similar problem. The range being affected sounds like the pilot jets could be clogged.

Good luck,
Dale

I can assure svs is very real

Doc, I have heard Ringfree is faster and more effective than Seafoam, and more expensive. But, I have not used it so this is not first hand info.
