not this kit. it's meant to be mounted on the valve rod tubes.

no kidding.
I bought an oil pressure gauge setup from http://www.sscustomcycle.com/products/customizing/Yamaha/roadstar.shtml
In the picture it looks nice. I have an aftermarket exhaust system which runs the back exhaust closer to those chrome oil feed lines you see in the picture. The oil gauge didn't fit my RS and it won't fit many that run exhaust like the baron nasties.
Pissed me off.

Had the same problem and Shane pretty much told me to go pound salt.I solved the problem. I can send you a picture ( still can't post a pic here to save my butt). I used a piece of stainless tube and ordered a longer bolt from Fastenal.I raised it 4 inches. I can also see it much better. If you kept the guage, I might still have a piece off the tube.

I sent him an email about modifying his kit with an extra long spacer tube and longer screw. I'm sure he'll tell me to go spit LOL.
Did you have to get a longer stainless steel hose? Do you remember what screw size you used from Fastenal? I'll start looking for a longer spacer but I'm not sure where to get that from.

greenpus, mail sent. I used the oil line supplied It was just long enough.
Fastenal was the only place I could find the stainless. I believe it was a socket cap M8-1.25 x150mm.It's been a year so you might want to check the threads and size before ordering.I took mine to the store. The smooth shank one comes with the thread depth exactly the same as the stock you are replacing. When I called Shane with this problem he told me since I had connected to my oil he would not refund my money. So I asked why not offer an extension kit? His answer was he buys as is and passes them on. The part that really fried my butt was he was aware that the thing does not work with some after market pipes, but that is no where in his ad.
This is one of the reasons I don't recomend him.
As for the ss rod, i used it's a cut off from a vertical rod used on a door panic bar, it' brass covered ss steel. I have an extra one if you get stuck finding something. It will polish up nicely.

Greenpus, I have the same oil pressure guage from SS Custom Cycles. Also am running V&H Longshots. Ran into the problem of the oil pressure guage not clearing the rear exhaust header. When I contacted Shane, he seemed to indicate he had never heard of this issue before. He did say the guage was made with the intent of the stock exhaust in place. Overall, I had a good experience with Shane. He seemed helpful and replied to several of my emails.

Anyway, like others have said and done, I had an extended spacer made and ordered a new bolt to fit the added spacer length. Spacer was 4 inches and the bolt was an M6x130mm (or maybe it was 120mm, I ordered one of each to be sure). Ordered the bolts from Fastenal. I used the supplied oil line from Shane.

Here's some pics of the finished job.

Hope this helps in some way.

Mike

Thanks Old Dog and Moreland for your help. I sent Shane an email and it was nice. I also hinted to him that he should consider selling different lengths of spacer and bolt.

I'll go ahead and order a few bolts from Fastenal. The only problem I have now is which length to order. LOL = Both you and old dog are giving me different lengths and threads for the bolts I guess what I'll do is take the original bolt to lowes and use their thing to measure threads and see what that says.
Thanks again guys.

Scott, I still have the Fastenal order sheet that came with the bolts. Like I said, I ordered one of each size to be sure I got one that fit. Just can't remember which one I ended up using (pretty sure it was the 120mm). Sizes I ordered and that are listed on the sheet are:

M6x130 (A2 grade) $5.40 PN: MS2550130A20

M6x120 (A4 grade) $7.64 PN: MS2550120A40
