I have full power to my garage so I can leave the Battery Tender connected. I have my electric garage door on a separate circuit so I can flip the switch and turn off power to the door so no one can open while I'm away or a sleep.

One thing that is also important in battery maintenance (especially the smaller batteries) is not letting it discharge and get REALLY cold (like in NW Ohio in mid-winter) Every time your battery completely discharges and gets sub-freezing, it loses some of it's potential (in a lead-acid battery, it's something like 8-10% of it's capacity). I think it's less for an AGM, but it will shorten your battery life dramatically. I pull my battery in the winter, put it on the workbench in my basement with my camper battery, and on the first day of every month stick 'em both on the appropriate charger for a few hours. My '07 Silverado battery is still hitting like brand-new (that being said, I will now probably have a dead battery..) Another old bit of 'wisdom' passed down to me by my father-in-law (and his father) is to never store a battery on a bare concrete floor, as it will ruin the battery. I don't know why, but I did it once, and the nearly-new battery died....
