Dumbfounded HD guy 1 Year ago
Thought I'd share a funny story. I was stopped at a local spot and and a couple of HD guys looking at my bike started in with the

" Oh it's a fake & It's Japanese cr*p" so I waited ....

then

" It's not American! , damn foreign sh*t" & I waited with a smile...

and last " We only buy American! blah...blah.. blah.."

(These guys were decked out head to toe in HD gear)

Me " So you only buy American HD ehh?"

they replied " eff ya!"

Me
" Really? Hmm ever looked closely at your boots, tshirts ,leather , skull cap, hat, picture frames, mugs, glasses? CAUSE THE TAGS SAY MADE IN CHINA, MAYLAYSIA etc...!"

The looks on their faces was priceless!

Next time you encounter one of "those guys" you can direct them to their own site. This came direct from the HD forum, there's a 4 page thread about it:

http://www.hdforums.com/forum/general-harley-davidson-chat/302563-how-much-of-a-harley-davidson-is-made-in-china.html

Quote from the HD forum:
Well, the forks are from Japan....made by the Showa company, I know this.

Most of the lights are from China

The chrome pieces are from Asia....no EPA reg's to deal with.

In all honesty, maybe a hair over half is made in America. They are assembled in America.

P.S. The engines are American Made.

Get used to it. We live in a Global economy/world. We are now one happy family.

~Joe

That doesn't include the Carbs, which are Japanese too.

+1
Buddy of mine has an early Kingpin. HD guys always check it out. I'm guessing because you see so few of them (at least in my area). If Victory could develop a similar "lifestyle image" & clothing line you would think they could really put a hurtin on HD. Problem is, they dont have the history and nostalgia that HD has. Harley doesnt really sell motorcycles, they sell a complete package with a large percentage of it being the cool factor. Cool is expensive, be it motorcycles, cars, clothing, etc. They build great bikes, regardless of where the parts come from, but they're top of the heap thanks to genius marketing....plain and simple. My 2 cents anyway.
