I'd love to help out. I had an ECU, which I sold and sent to bruce270 in Wisconsin. The dude never paid me, and hasn't been back to the site since!

Believe me, I really wish I still had it that I could send it to you.

rballew, just so you'll know the igniter doesn't send any charge to the coils. All it does is make and break the ground connection so the coils will fire.

I'm just guessing but your problem sounds like a bad diode. There are several in the Road Star wiring and they're there to prevent current from traveling in the wrong direction.

Check all the plugs that are under the dash the things you mention can be from an open (bad contact) circuit. If the pins (connectors) in the plugs under the dash are loose or spread open and not making good contact you can get the problem. Also a bad ground can cause that as well so chase down EVERY black wire and make sure you have a good connection to ground (the frame) start with the big wire on the battery.

Sounds to me like it is a grounding issue with the brake lightl wiring...

I still haven't solved the issue with my signals, speedo, odometer, clock & fuel gauge working imtermittenly or they work until i touch the brakes(front or rear) the brake light and horn will not work at all. I have opened the wiring harness,no naked wires & no obvious signs of grounding/arching. the headlight is off,no signs of arching. had the battery load tested- it's good.I have checked the fuse block, 14.47 volts. checked the main fuse-good, the headlight, passing lights & running light work as they should. I have replaced the turn signal relay, problem still exist. I know the igniton ignitor produces a charge to the coils which improves spark on the plugs. does the ignitor produce a eletrical charge that's distributed thru the harness which provides power to stuff that's not working right?i just don;t feel that the problem is in the harness. I have moved, wiggled, created slack, created a bit of tension on the harness & still haveing issues with the thngs i mentioned. this electrical issue has caused me to chase my tail for 2 weeks now. I have watched a few videos about the ignitor. the videos are showing the voltage on a multi meter, turn signals working, horn working, tail & brake light working..etc.. my thought is why are those things being pointed out unless the ignitor has some bearing on them. thanks for any input, advice, direction in advance.

I am down the road from you I am usually pretty good with the electrical stuff. I could ride up and help you out maybe we can figure it out between the both of us. Thursday or Friday would be good let me know.

thanks for the offer Rev, i really appreciate it. There's just no way I can get off work thru the weekdays. I would call in sick. but, that would be lying & i can't stand a liar. I do my best to practice what I preach. Plus I've got to be outta work for a couple/few months after back surgery on the 14th. I don't want to press my luck by calling in. Guys, thanks for all yalls advice and ideas on what the issue maybe. By the time this iks over i'll be able to schetch a entire electrical diagram.

Have you tried pulling 1 fuse at a time to see if you can narrow down what circuit is causing the issue? Or unplugging 1 switch at a time to see if you are getting feedback thru a bad switch? This is an okay way to do it, but I'd pull them all and start putting them back in one at a time until I found that naughty one.... in case it's more than one, but I think this is a relay issue.

I'm not too keen on the actual problem though. Everything works until you apply the either brake, then it goes off. I get that. Now, when you release the brake, does it go back on, or does it only go back on when you shut the bike off then turn it back on? In other words, how do you get it back on? When did this start happening?

BTW, here is your wiring diagram.... or at least it should be close.

Also does this occur with the key in run or only with the bike running, or both?
