No that's not it I have down all the way to the pistons connector rods and like I said it only turns about 180° and not a complete 360°

Are you trying to manually turn it over through the left front cover or with the starter?

Edit: Disregard, I should of read closer, I see now you have removed the jugs.

No I'm using the connector rods and if I take out the starter gears out I can only turn it the same amount with the wheel that fits into the stator

I was editing my post when you replied. Pretty sure I am right about the clutch basket having a hole behind it, but it has been a long time since it was mentioned.

I am not saying it is the clutch. I am saying the best way to get to the bottom of the motor to fish a dowel pin is through a hole behind the clutch basket. That is if my memory is correct. If you cant get to it from the jug hole.

Guess the question is, is the crank hitting the dowel pin on the bottom of the case. Not sure of the clearance. Was it a front dowel pin that was missing or a rear? Think the hole behind the clutch only works for something dropped in the rear as there is a ridge below the crank.

Here is a pic of the hole I think that was referred to before.

i'm not an expert on this, but i did have the same problem a few weeks ago ... i'd turn the key and it would only click. in my case i verified the relay like erbman said ... jumped the relay and it cranked (and sparked to beat all hell). mine turned out to a be a bad starter as i bought a used starter off of ebay and it worked.

i also bought a new relay and cables, but haven't installed those yet as the problem seems to be fixed.

Seems like if the magnet dont work you are going to have to take the motor out and turn it upside down and try to shake out whatever is stoping it revolving. You got it half stripted down. You might as well bite the bullet and try the rest. When you get the motor out you will have more room to go even deeper.
