I have a friend who went with the Baptist Missions to Cuba to work on a seminary that had been just sitting incomplete since the work had stopped in or around 1958. He said there were many people there who actually thought Castro was the bee's knee's, and the US was the reason Cubans were suffering. Plenty of others were to afraid to offer an opinion on the subject.
In the end, when the propaganda mills reinvent history, the socialist will preach how it was the greedy rich that caused the problems by taking money from the poor. They'll say how it was the unequal distribution of wealth that stalled spending, and caused the economic collapse. The poor had no more money to spend, because the government went broke, because the wealthy were hoarding their money....instead of being fair. They will gloss over all of the regulation and red tape that destroyed the business environment, and the anti business anti corporation mentality, that sent jobs out of the country.
The truth will only live in the hearts and minds of those who see socialism for the miserable suffocating lie it is.
The housing bubble that burst was immediately blamed on greed on Wall Street and Capitalism run amok. It took almost four years before people close to the crime, would openly admit the collusion between the government and the banks, to reduce the lending standards so more people could afford a home. Even while it was crashing to the ground, girls like Barney Frank were trying to tell everyone it was all good at Fan and Fred. When people are afraid to speak up, then the truth will die.
