You live at 9000 and work at 5500? Do you leave your house via parachute in the morning, then do a hill climb on the way home? That's pretty big difference.

Most states have 4 directions you can go, North, South, East, and West. Colorado adds 2 more Up and Down, and you normally combine those with the other 4 till you get on the eastern plains, almost to Kansas or Nebraska.

Re:Looking for ideas 12 Months ago
Well took the bike out today, bike seems to run good. Stopped in to my buddy shop and used this 4 gas analizer, first showed idle rpm at 700, running lean at idle, and at 2500rpm it was rich on rear cyl, lean on ft cyl. Also when stopping for a light (only one on the ride) , bike idled, when I pulled up to the shop and other places later, bike would idle for 20-30 sec then die, would start right back up and idle fine. Where should I start in setting up the carb?

don't think it should change anything, but I currently am running the 4oz (est 8 caps full) of seafoam to clean out the carbon.

Maybe back out pms 1/4 turn and go up a notch on needle. Your Idle should about 900 rpm. The pms if I were you I would screw it all the way back in to a light seat counting every turn down to the 1/4 or 1/8 turn. You have to know what your start points are. PMS settings needle where's the clip sitting.

I'll second the idle setting. All the PMS adjustments are supposed to be made at or close to 900 rpms.
With a 25% increase in the idle speed(over the current 700rpms), you would have more vacuum, and be moving more fuel thru the primary/pilot circuit. That would richen up your idle.
Is the KN filter inside the stock airbox? If so, you can add more air by making some alterations(poor mans BAK), or go to a different air cleaner assembly. I pulled the rubber boot out of the air inlet on mine, and added a 1 3/8 inch hole(size of the carb throat).

My VH Longshots have baffles, but their hard to see. If you put your finger in the end, you'll feel the step if their there.
The factory setting for the PMS, is about2 1/2 turns out from lightly seated. If the PMS has never been tampered with, it'll still have a brass plug over it. To make any adjustments, you have to remove the plug.
If the plug is still covering the PMS, then its likely that the stock needle is still in the carb as well.

By the way, you can check for the PMS plug with a small pocket, makeup, or mechanics mirror without removing the carb. Its on the backside of the carb bowl when your looking at the carb from the right side of the bike.

Use this diagram, and then check on your carb to see if it's still there.

Lower left drawing. Look for the "Pilot Mixture Screw Cover"

...and yet another edit

The idle adjuster, is below the stock airbox. Its a black knob mounted to a bracket right at the base of the cylinders. The throttle stops against it, so if I want to increase the idle, I open the throttle a tad at the handle bars, and turn the knob to the right. When I got my bike, nobody had messed with it for awhile, and it needed some back and forth to loosen it up so it would turn.

Thank you everyone, weather is going to be bad the next couple of days go I think I'll work on it, starting with the idle. By the way I figured out the dying when stopping, If the bike's still in gear and you put the kick stand down it dies, duh. And SKWEARpeg, it's a K&N kit, no stock air cleaner, just the open filter and I just cleaned the filter last week.
