I just pay it NO MIND I have had Harleys, Triumph, Kawi,Honda's.And I Love my Road Star .I had money to buy what I wanted thought hard about a new HD in 06 saw the roadie on show room floor'' and fell in love, the cost and 5 year warrenty WOW to hard to pass up, and 10 grand cheaper WOW' 'after I bought it I was wondering if I did the right thing my HD buddies made fun of it and for a while I left it parked thinking I made a mistake that when my wife started to ride with me to get me out on it ,we when to Ocean then to Mountain before ya know it 10.000 miles then 20.000 then 30.000 all the sudden I thought no problems runs great And by God I love riding it I'm sure there are many HD rider that feel the same way and those our the one's I ride with .enough said just my 2 cents Ride safe.

I think most of that "Jap" bike hostility is in your heads
I purposely qualified the "better bike"comment with "more expensive"

Fly by wire, cruise control, air suspension, hd kicks ass

I still love my roadie

For what I was willing to pay to get back on a bike, the Roadie was perfect.
I agree with what Curt said about the paint and chrome on the HD's. The paint on the first Roadie I ever saw was what caught my eye besides the overall curb appeal. My first thought, was "Wow! that's almost as nice a paint job as my Springer".

....and yesterday when a HD went by me on the interstate, and waved with his right hand,...I said B@st@rd...

Whats funny, was something somebody said on the other thread about "since it's just a Yamaha, I won't have to worry about it".
That thought went through my mind when I bought it.....I'm not sure where it went after that

The bar I go to has harley riders and 1%ers Mine is one of 2 metrics I have ever seen there I will get a little ribbing right before I get a compliment on it.It always gets complimented. It's the rider not the ride and sometimes that just a front to what your made of.

I dont hate the brand (I do love poking fun at their heritage of breaking down though ) I was seriously looking at HD's and nothing else when I started to buy. One thing that did somewhat drive me away from the brand was an HD salesman on the showroom floor bashing Victory's like they were the lowest piece of crap on the planet to ride, not worth a !@@#$$%% "and this dealership wont even take them in on trade!!!" were some words out of his mouth. So I didnt even bring up a jap bike... I happened to be in that stealership looking specifically at the RoKr, my favorite HD model (ya ya I know a cheasy factory looking chopper its what I like ) but from that day on I started looking a lot harder at other brands and ultimately got my Midnight Girl

Like others have said in not so many words it is those "less than 1%er's" ... the posers that ride their bikes less in 1 year than I ride in 1 week and then look down at me cause Im not in orange and black like they are.

Harley=paying extra for the exclusivity and acceptance of having a mass-produced bike you can see at the next traffic light. Owned them, over-paid, and now I'm over it

cause they cant make i on just the clothing line all jokes aside though i think you pay more for a combo of a few things.

1. the name
2. as curt said better chrome and paint and i totally agree.
3. they have some cool technology that you can get with the bike.
4. whatever you want to throw in as well.

all in all both are great bikes just one is cheaper than the other out the gate (but who hs a stock bike anyway )

Smoke,I agree with some of the things you say,but honestly is it a better bike NO WAY
the road star is a great bike at the price they sell for compared to HD I will never
say bad things about HD they build great bikes also, just don't get why we will pay about double to buy one, compared to are Roadie.

Just Dave wrote:
As a long time owner of both brands, I have a Road King a Softail Custom and just traded a v-star 1100 in on a Road Star, I have to say that both of the brands make great bikes. Both of them have huge aftermarket support, a slight nod going to HD here for having more available. They run about the same, Slight nod to Yamaha for a bit more torque. Weigh about the same. Sound about the same, amazing how much a Road Star and a twin cam sound almost identical. Harley gets a slight nod for chrome quality and overall fit and finish. Yamaha gets the nod on cost of engine mods. Its really expensive to build a twin cam. Yamaha wins hands down for location of oil filter and cam drive design. I could go on and on but the point is that they are both great bikes and are equally fun to ride which is what it is all about in the end.

One thing that does stand out to me however is the fact that I am on a Huge Harley forum and nobody ever starts a thread just to bash metrics. You might see them mentioned once in awhile but it is usually in passing such as a "when I used to have my VTX.." or something similar. Road Stars in particular are recognized as one of the better alternatives available to an H.D. on the forum I am taking about and I have never seen a bad word about them on there. On the flip side, the metric boards seem to be just eat up with Harley bashing threads. I have seen two new ones on this forum alone in the last three days. When I had my 1100 I totally give up on a forum because it was just an everyday thing. Those guys could sure dish it out but woo-bee the guy that tries to correct their misinformation. They will all jump in and say they are just kidding and that you are the one with the problem if you can't take it etc.

I know I am new here but I really like what I see so far and this is the last time I will bring this up. Maybe the next time that some Harley guy makes you mad you can start a thread on what that particular rider did to piss you off and not stereotype a whole group. This forum seems to be more geared toward getting the job done when modding your bike that the usual BS that so many other forums are all about. This is the way all forums would be if I ruled the world. There is Facebook for B.S.

Ride Safe and Ride Often.

Well said and thank you
