They are hard to see when the saddlebags are on. What I did to ensure that the flags stayed in place was to drill a hole in the pipe, weld a 9/16 nut onto the pipe. I can now tighten the flags pretty solid in the pipe, or flag holder whichever you prefer. I no longer use these flag holders, as my flag poles are to short, and when the bike is on the stand, the flag touches the ground.
If you want to make your flag pole for highway speed, you might consider what I did. I cut the end off a regular flagpole, and ran galvanized pipe into the flag pole.
