I have the Sportech Plus fairing and I get the vibration/wobble at 75+ MPH. I was having problems with the speakers and just sent it back for replacement. While speaking to the customer service rep, I asked about the wobble. I was told that v-twin bikes are always constantly rumbling but when you attach a fairing, you physically see the shaking at certain speeds. I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate of an explanation but if you Google fairing wobble, you'll see that it's a common occurance. The rep said that there's not a 1 fix solution to the problem. Some people put on lowers and it works. The rep was hesitant about giving me a solution because there's no 1 proven solution. I was reassured that as long as the fairing is bolted on properly, there's no danger of it popping off while riding.

Who knows!

I have the same problem with my Dead Center Fairing, but mine is rpm based not speed based. At about 3000 rpm (give or take a few rpm) my fairing shakes/vibrates enough to cause the weather cover for my stereo to close and rattle. The Klock Werks windshield also vibrates and chatters.

Thanks Resslej. I've always admired your scoot and the mod work you've put into it. Great looking bike!

I'm fairly convinced that it's an RPM issue and not a tire issue (I'm going to fire it up on the kickstand tonight and find our for sure - never thought about that til now) but its definitely happening lower than 3k. Ironically, the thing is solid as a rock at highway speeds, no wobble, no rattle, no buffeting with Curt's lowers.

Since you've done quite a bit of work, do you think my weights idea has any merit or should I throw that right out?

I really don't know if additional counterweights would work or not. If it would work, I think it would take a lot of weight to counter act the vibration. I kind of ruled out the counter weight idea when I started looking for a solution because I thought the weight of the speakers would already act as counter weights.

Been looking through for a solution to this problem but the word vibration means too many different things here.

The Reckless is doing what it's supposed to. I'm worried, however, by the amount of vibration I'm getting at low speeds. Maybe shaking violently is a better description. Between 20 - 30 mph, or the perfect State Park back road speed, the thing shakes so hard it wants to jump off the bike. This is the same vibration that caused my Kuryakyn lay down license plate mount to snap and require welding in the past.

That was steel and it snapped after a few years, 30k miles or so. How is a fibreglass fairing supposed to hold up for 100k more miles? I can only imagine what that's doing to the mounting bolts, speaker mounts, radio mounts, and internal electronics.

I'm thinking that if Yami could use weighted bar end grips to reduce vibe, maybe the same would work here. Anyone tried something similar? I'm thinking of glassing or epoxying some sort of weights into the fairing wings and that might cut down on the worst of it. I can steady the shaking with a very light grip on the upper edge of the fairing, so that gives me some hope that this can be solved.
How wierd, my Reckless is rock-solid at all speeds and in wind, no wobble, shaking, etc...

Just curious has anyone added rubber washers at the fairing mount and if that helps?

I have same thing, but last year not so much, I did change some things and I think there is a cure, just that you will run into it by accident rather than looking for it. I hate it. But thats what Mine does now also. I am in agreement with what they told you as stated in your first post.

My fairing shakes quite a bit at between 5 and 20 miles per hour, but yours does sound excessive. These bike don't like to be lugged at all though.
As soon as I hit second gear all the vibration goes away. It could be to thinner mounts or lugging the bike.

Just guessing though.

I have the same problem with bad vibration. It was so bad that the stereo face destroyed the contacts casing it to turn on and off while riding. I run the Reckless fairing on the stock Yamaha mounts. It is definitely RPM related for me . I can make the vibration come and go with it on the kickstand varying the RPM. Not sure exactly what RPM but would guess it starts around 3000. I had some HD lowers installed that amplified it so bad I thought they would fly off on the interstate. I am going to make a bracket that bolts to the bottom part of the windshield mount and goes to the bolts on the lower triple clamp. That should take a large amount away and also reinforce for the weight of the fairing.
