I don't "hate" them.
I've have owned three, two were bought brand new.
I have owned Harleys, Yama-Hammers, Hondas, Triumphs, Nortons, Ducatis, Bultacos, Hodakas and a Royal Enfield.
I could have afforded an H-D this time.
The one bike I will not waste money on again is the H-D.

I'd say "Hate" is too strong a word for me, I dislike them though.....they make a great 7 or 8 thousand dollar bike...but then they add those two $5,000 letters onto them...H.D.

I really don't see the point in riding a bike that shakes like a Chihuahua trying to shit out a peach pit....yes I know, the newer bikes don't shake...as much, but still....I'll stick to a bike that is built just as well and costs less

I do agree that it's not all HD riders, it is a very few...but then I also used to drive a truck over the road and I was lumped in with them, people always thought that all truckers must do speed to stay awake, just like a lot of people think that all bikers are criminals..it's a stereotype.

TWO former Road Star owners (and Clinic members) have told me that people treat you differently when you ride a Harley- there's more respect given.

I guess I'll never know...

I don't get it...I spent 28 years in the Navy...respect goes to a person not a piece of steel.

How a person rides, treats others, and conducts themselves is how I will judge and give respect. It is also how I receive respect. Just sayin' Those same folks that are into name plates, are no different than women who have to drive mb's or beemers, or have to shop at high end phoney stores, or have to have I-phones even though anroids are far superior phones....

Now maybe I have stirred some kaka....lol

Why are HD so much more too buy than the metric bikes??? Can't wait for the response.

cause they cant make i on just the clothing line all jokes aside though i think you pay more for a combo of a few things.

1. the name
2. as curt said better chrome and paint and i totally agree.
3. they have some cool technology that you can get with the bike.
4. whatever you want to throw in as well.

all in all both are great bikes just one is cheaper than the other out the gate (but who hs a stock bike anyway )

Smoke,I agree with some of the things you say,but honestly is it a better bike NO WAY
the road star is a great bike at the price they sell for compared to HD I will never
say bad things about HD they build great bikes also, just don't get why we will pay about double to buy one, compared to are Roadie.

what harley model are you compairing the roadie to just for clairification? i would compair it to a fatboy (softail family). a 2012 roadie base model is like $12,400ish the (S) model with the extra chrome is $13,500. a 2012 fatboy is 16,350. so really there is only a $4,000 diff rite out the gate.

2012 road star silverado (bags and winshield) $14,600, (s) model with the extra chrome $15,600. closest hd model in my mind is the road king at $17,500. the diff is $2900 for base roadie and base road king. $1900 for road star s and road king.

strat deluxe is alot like a street glide (bags and fairing) strat deluxe base price $17,990 street glide base price is $19,500 so only about $1500 more.

please dont take this as me being a arse im just trying to figure what model are you compairing the road star to to get the double the price figure. used price i would agree 100% with you that a harley will cost you double than a roadie even though i dont feel the roadie is worth so little and the harley worth so much in the used market

Oh Yeh.... 3 words.... "Cam Chain Tensioners". Bad, very bad.

P.S.-- Do I hate them, no. Are they nice, yes. So are a lot of bikes.

thing of the past - since 07 and you can convert the 88's to the updated cam plate with hyd tensioners.

Or install gear drives. That was never the big deal it was made out to be in the first place.
