Sounds like a good starting point SKWEARpeg. I'll give them their shot.

Re:Gas mileage blows 1 Year ago
Was in yesterday getting a bigger shock spring put it. Chatted with the service manager a bit too. Called this morning and said who I was and the issue I was having. "V-Star?". 'Bout went nuclear on him. Won't be able to get it in till Monday. mentioned about the manifold possibly leaking. "Really?".

Re:Gas mileage blows 1 Year ago
greyphart, just so you'll know, the AIS has no effect whatsoever on the fuel mileage.

There's a lot you haven't mentioned like how many gallons at each fillup. I always fill mine up before empty and it's usually 3 point something gallons.

Re:Gas mileage blows 1 Year ago
First tank was on them. 2nd one I put in $10 @ $3.77 / gal. Put a cap of SeaFoam in as it was 10% ethanol. Longest trip of 30 miles @ 55 avg speed. Mostly around town driving. Stand on it sometimes when encountering stupidity. Roughly 8 gallons so far on 182 miles. Not good. Probably missing the obvious.

Well the 2nd tank was only 2.65 gallons, not much. Probably need to start over somehow with the mileage calculation.

Don't be surprised if they say they didn't find anything, and they don't think its leaking.
Its easy to check for yourself. Don't give them to much grief, you may need them later on.

Like texasscott says, you should be about 3.5 gallons give or take a little.
I fill up to where the gas just enters the neck, within five miles or so of the low fuel light coming on.....does that make sense??
I never fill mine any more then the small ridge at the bottom of the neck, and I do the same thing everytime.
Mines been improving as I've been tinkering. The first was 3.84, and the last was 3.5, and the next one is going to be closer to 3.0. If your in that range around town, you'll be between 35 and 40 mpg.
I set my trip meter, and let it keep adding up miles, and just keep track of how much fuel I buy(the last was about 420 miles, and 11.5 gallons total). I keep a running tally that way. I figure when it gets to 1000 miles, I'll reset the trip meter and start again.

Re:Gas mileage blows 1 Year ago
I'm averaging 34 mpg on my '08 1700....of course it has to pull my big ass around.....I set my first trip odo at fill up and use it to figure mileage, and I use the second trip odo to see how many (s)miles I ride each day

when I first bought the bike (a month ago) the first tank I didn't even get quite 30 mpg....but that was all my fault, went from an 805cc bike to a 1700cc and I had a hard time controlling my right wrist

Re:Gas mileage blows 1 Year ago
I reset my trip odometer every time I fill up, and fill it to the top every time (fast fuel fill mod done). I kinda have to do this due to inop fuel sending unit!! If you want to keep a running tally-there are two trip odometers A and B. I average about 42-45 MPG mostly hiway at about 70-80 MPH. Usually get to 180-200 miles before hitting reserve. All stock 99 Silverado except AIS removed and stage 1 exhaust, 26000 miles.
Ride hard but safe VROOM VROOM

Re:Gas mileage blows 1 Year ago
Wife pointed out that even a new car don't get great mileage for a while. Needs to be broken it. Gonna fill it and run it for a while and play with the numbers (balls out riding, city tripping, loaded, only my "large frame", etc). Sometimes you don't see the obvious.
