Help!!!!!!! 11 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Ok at wits end here.(or maybe its just a lack of wits! who knows) anyway just put on a ported manifold and removed AIS. low and behold bike started running like crap. It was like I was pulling a big parachute behind me when I hit 4th gear. So I took it down and had it ran on a Dyno. Guy said it was running real rich at 4000 RPM and I should change the main jet. so I came home and replaced the 205 jet that was in it with a dj 180 after stepping down 200, 195, 190, 185. adjusted the PMS to 21/2. per several post read on here for a starting point. have tried several adjustment over the last several days and can't get anything to work. now when I am cruising at in town residential speeds all is good, but the faster I go then everything goes bad. when I shift at higher RPMs it is like it coughs then it starts to go. also real rough when cruising at higher speeds. some one any one please what should I try next????????????

Are you using the DJ needle as well? If so, counting from the blunt end which groove is the clip in? The 180 dj should be ok, at the biggest for a DJ main a 185.

Also, what air kit are you using and pipes?

Any chance that the manifold is leaking around the flanges after you put it back on? It wouldn't be the first one that had to be taken off and reinstalled. Is the AIS port on the manifold capped or soldered shut?

+1 on the 180 or 185 main, and Erbmans question about where the clip is on the needle.

Erbman is one of our resident carb gurus... you're in good hands with him.

The elevation at Modesto is 87 ft above sea level so the 180 or 185 DJ should be just fine. You have a HyperCharger so first thing is make sure you have no manifold leaks or leaks on the HC. Also tell us what your needle is set at.

I have BUB's long shots, and Kuryakyn Hyper-charger, and yes stock carb and fuel pump.I am guessing it is a stock needle cause it only has one groove.

Installed needle on 4th groove, moved up to the 185 main jet, and started PMS at 3 but still getting a little spudder when holding a constant speed.
