While the starter is a nice addition I would first upgrade the wires and get a 310cc battery.The stock starter really comes to life and cranks awsome with these two upgrades.I used the Maxair wires and they installed easy and fit well.

Granted, the original starter is a bit weak, but unless you're actually having starting problems... why?

I've experienced the weakness of the original starter, but it's never once failed to start for me, and so I've never considered changing or upgrading the starting system.

+ 1 on the thunderfire starter it turns my 110 CI over with no problem plus I have a 375 CCA battery

Too bad the thunderfire only fits 07 and earlier. We are stuck with OEM starters and smaller batteries.

My bike is slow starting when its cold so I change the oil to 20-40 then back to 20-50 in spring. That takes care of that.

I suppose there's not much reason to spring for a new starter.

I have a 07 with the orginal battery and i ride year round. And yes it gets plenty cold in Central Texas and it has never let me down. I am going to put a new Deka in it in August before I head to the West Coast.

Not really!

You may not be aware but the 20-40 & 20-50 multi visc oil your using for diff time of yr both have the same exact 20w grade base oil meaning they are both 20w oils when cold .

So there is absoulutely no diff in starting capability between those 2 grades of oil at all because they both start out as 20w oils when cold.

The only diff is the 20-50 has more viscosity building material in its additive pkg that take it past 40w (in the 20w-40 oil) to 50w(in the 20w-50 oil) when the oil is close to or up to full operating temp.

Thats what multi visc oils are all about,lighter oil for better cold start capability but when motor & oil get to full to op temp special materialas in the oils additive pkg beefs the base 20w oil in cold state to a heavier 40w or 50w oil when hot for better protection.

Then both those oils return to a 20w base oil when motor if off and oil cools down for easier starting.

Starting to get worried about my starter....today pressed the start button and seemed like a flat spot...the next time..there was nothing..waited a minute and then the flat spot kinda pause and engine fired..bike was warmed up..it was in the mid 60's F. I have already upgraded cables and my battery is a n Odessy and on a tender every night...
If the starter goes, I'm thinking Warrior as a replacement. Does anyone here know of a source that ships and sells at a reasonable price? & what price range should I be expecting? thanks

The Warrior starter is going to run you quite a bit more than the HO Thunderfire. As River said, you can get it in chrome.

i second your opinion.. did the same with mine plus the wires,warrior relay and a 310amp battery..man does this bike turn over fast.. and the chrome starter looks great in a spot where there is little chrome on the motor.. well worth the price.. the stock setup would strain when the heat was raging outside.. the wires they use are puny next to the flamewires.. go with thunderfire !!
