I grew up south of Poughkeepsie in Croton-on-Hudson. My family use to say all the crazy people live in Poughkeepsie - I think because there was a large insane assylum.

Timothy Leary lived there for a while and his comrades were known for making some of the purist LSD available - large stock given to Beatles - blotter acid.

And who can forget the famous line in French Connection:

"Do you pick your feet in Poughkeepsie?"

I think it's the long winter. I'm in Maine right now, and it's full of crazies (and lazies! 2nd highest public assistance rolls in the country, I'm told). Where I come from, we don't have riding "season". You either do, or ya don't!
