I think today there is an overall lack of respect for people in general. I have big issue with those who are selfish lazy and disrespectful. A little bit of courtesy goes a long way and going the extra mile has great rewards in all aspects of living. People who don't 'look out' for others are missing the boat in the giving sense and should never ever expect anything good to come their way.
I'm 50, sometimes come across as a smart ass (usually in a fun way) but I am a gentleman through and through, tough as nails and always on the ready. Some people mistake my kindness for weakness - I believe they are so weak they cannot be kind.
Do to others as you would have them do to you ... or, strike first, strike hard, no mercy.

MountainCruiser, I am glad that manners are still here and that there are some of us still teaching the young about them. Sometimes we can do a lot just by our example. I am sure the woman you assisted thought the same thing. I hope that your leg heals quickly...and I share your disappointment in the way our society has become. Kai

MountainCruiser,
You should be proud of what you did to help, and hopefully the others felt a little ashamed of their inactions (although I doubt it). I'm glad to see that there are many others on this forum that think the same way. Now if we could only get more proportion do the right thing instead of only thinking about themselves.

Mountiancruiser, be proud of your momma. She's the one that planted that seed.

Good on you, MC! You did the right thing!
At first I thought this thread was about the "Let me get your opinion on something..." thread, which I find revolting in the mis-treatment of women (but I digress...).
The society of men is broken because of the way it views the elderly, the sick and women:
Elderly....used up
Sick....use-less
Women....objects of use
You saw past all three barriers and did something noble.
Only when we see all people as "made in the image of God" do we learn to respect and honor them as they should be.

I'm disapointed in our younger generation as a whole,
not just the male population.
But, thank you for assisting the lady.
She was someone's mom, or grandmother.

I don't see the younger crowds around here disrespecting the elderly. I see them disrespecting EVERYONE. I have to be told to quit saying "Sir" and "Ma'am" before I will. I even call my friends "sir" and "ma'am". I do my best to rush to open it for others. My biggest problem (and I am willing to admit it) is that I curse like a sailor. I really need to work on that.
