I got an interpreter here at work that tells me that is Northerner for Bar Harbor! WOW! And people here have the nerve to tell all us Texans working here that we talk funny!

It cracks me up. It seems like folks up that way listen to old recordings of the Kennedy's to improve their Nor-eastern articulation. I've heard a similar dialect on the eastern slopes of the Rockies. Probably immigrants.

Regarding the 'waving" thing. I grew up in a semi rural part of Nebraska....I know, for some of you, you don't get the semi part of rural, especially in Nebraska ......anyway, most of the down home folk up that way, waved at cars coming from the other direction...there's not alot of traffic in some areas of the state, so you didn't wear out your wave. It was neighborly. If they didn't wave back, they were either strangers, or having a perpetually bad life
It started a kind of running gag, that resulted in the hand cut out on a spring that got mounted on the dash. You could buy one at just about every truck stop along the road.

Semi-rural Nebraska? You must mean the part between Big Springs and Omaha, along the big blue road!

That'd be it. Try not to get out of sight of the interstate either to the north or the south. Once you climb outta the river valley, it's rural. My family tree has a big bunch of roots in the area east of Broken Bow. I grew up in between the North and South Platte.

I spent a week driving thru Nebraska one night!

I had supper in Big Springs, just as the sun was going down. I drove east all night, 70-80 MPH, and when the sun hit the dash in the morning, I was STILL in Nebraska!

Since then, I have flown in to Omaha, just to drive to Storm Lake, Iowa to look at an aircraft that ran off the runway, to the tune of about 2.4 million dollars.

Well, I got 3 days of estimating on it, but it went to Cessna CJ2 with about 1800 hours on it.

I met a guy in Maine the other day, said he was from Baahaabba. I think that is in Canada?

I used my spell checker - Maine edition and it is actually... Baa-Haa-Ba

Located downeast of just about everywhere else. Great place to ride for the day. I'm about 3.5 hours away. No passport required.

I don't think I qualify as downeast. L/A. I know. As close to being nowhere as it gets in Maine. Even in the back country, you are somewhere!

I miss Texas.
