engine knocking after it warms up good 4 Years, 6 Months ago
Hello, I'm new to this but I like what I see. I recently purchased an 04 Silverado. I love the bike, but it has a ping or engine knock after it warms up good. I need some help on how to solve this problem. I don't want to damage the engine.
Please help.

Tell me what bike you had previously...

The Harley and Yammi V-twins do have a normal knock because of the engine design ..etc..

The big explosions in the air cooled cylinders are not muffled by a water jacket...

You want car like quiet ..you wont find it in the V-twin single crank motor

Good oil can reduce this but unless it is abnormally loud ..

Yer OK...:

What grade of gas are you running? Regualr 87 octane is what you want. Are you lugging the motor? It's easy to run 1 gear too high. Any mods done to the bike? I have a knock in my front cylinder from the minute I start it up. Been the for a long time and she's still running.

realriderfbc.. Roadies are noisy,, if you have a really hard knock when the engine is hot, it probably is caused by pre-ignition from carbon build up...There are several folks here that can help you with that, but you will have to know how your carb is set up, and also your riding style...these engines like to be run hard occasionally and most folks don't ...

I was riding a virgo. This knock is mostly when I just let out on the clutch or when i accelerate lightly.
Thanks

Been There ... Heard That ... it's the nature of the Roadie beast! You can add V&H longshots, will help reduce the knocks up front ... but will add the the Roar in the rear Like pop said try a synthetic oil... it might help. Quieted mind down a little bit.

I'm running on 92 oct. No lugging. Yamaha shop says it's normal, just seems like a peigniton knock or ping to me. I thought i might be able to get rid of the knock.
Thanks
