I have yet to use my petroleum reserve

Last fuel up took 3.3 gallons... rode 153.5 miles, 100 of them two lanin' it with about 20 on I-4 doing 80-90, last 33 miles was city. Florida has some long red lights lol. Still avg'd 46. I hate the rev limiter Must be time for a Dyna 3000

Ok so i find it imposible to do 70mph for a whole tank i nust cant do it. I live at 80+ with a 50/50 mix of city and highway and im hard on the throttle. So 125 or so miles and im reaching for the fuel valve. For those of you that ”can” behave when do you reach for the reserve?

If I recall properly, you did your own setup for your HSR42.

Did you run your fuel line above or below you intake manifold?
Did you put in a Pingle High Flow Petcock?
Did you drill out the Vent-Tube and remove the rollover valve?
Did you ventilate your gas cap?

FYI, I have a setup from Shane... slightly changed with tweaks to the PMS and Idle and the accel pump to be leaner.

I do not have the Pingle, Have not vented my gas cap nor have I drilled out my vent more. I do have the fuel line and filter above the intake and have NO valleys that can capture bubbles.

I get about 165 before I have to turn to reserve playing nice. About 140 crankin it.

Re: Rev Limiter

I just put an '05 ignition module on my '03, and am happy with the revs available. Another 500 or so RPM works wonders!

A lot less cabbage than a Dyna 3000 too. Got it from a Clinic member for less than 100 bucks shipped.

Re:125 miles and hit reserve. 11 Months ago
I used to have to hit reserve around 145 give or take. On long trips, I tend to drive way too fast on the expressway and get worse mileage. 30mpg is the worst I ever got with a mostly stock bike and that was running at or near 100mph for almost the entire tank. I just did the whole setup from Shane over at SS. Ported manifold, Dyna 3000, 42mm HSR, Dyna coils, 10.4mm wires. Barons BAK with upgraded K&N. Just got it tuned but haven't checked mileage yet.

I'm usually good for 170 before hitting the reserve.

When I am just funnin' around going back and forth to work, cranking on it I get about 130 when the light comes on (4.1 - 4.2 gallons). Out cruising I hit 170+ when the light comes on. My guage reads fairly close. A half tank on the guage and around 2 gallons, peg the needle on 'E' and about 4 gallons. When the light comes on around 4.2 every time. I'm good & the Smile is still there every time I press START.

Re:125 miles and hit reserve. 11 Months ago
I don't and won't go by when I switch to reserve, I strictly go by mpg. And I have done mileage runs, as much of a controlled condition that I can, as per Mikuni recommendations. This way I know what the true capabilities of potential max mpg at cruise speed (65mph), and 15mph over said cruise speed, not only does the 15mph over tell me mpg, but tells me that I should be getting richer as well, and mpg should have dropped. And city? it is what it is. They put mpg stickers on new cars, they test them in controlled conditions as well, the bike is no different, it has a motor too, and there is a sweet spot for mpgs.
Yes, if you want to do a good mpg test, it can be mundane a ride, I do at least 100 miles or better and holding speed, yeah!, try holding 65mph for 150 miles without playing with the throttle, ain't fun, but it is very informative.

Any way, I don't get less than 40mpg, only once, 36mpg, but that was into a head wind, and can get as good as 49, 50mpg.

162.5 main /yost tube

#98 needle 2nd groove (can even go to 1st groove, but there better not be any air leaks, or you'll never dial it in!)
Nemesis manifold

Any way
take what ya can, toss the rest
