billdayton Before jumping into the carb check all you muffler and exhaust pipe joints for leaks. Use a cigarette or incense stick to check all around each joint. If there is a leak the smoke will be blown away and the lit end will glow bright red. It sound like it may be lean and exhaust leaks can cause that along with bad jetting and low float level. Also you may have some bad gas or water in the gas.

I didn't like the way one slip-on clamp was connected, and fixed that. No apparent exhaust system leak by smoke test. I disconnected the fuel tank vent hose for testing because I couldn't blow through it. Now it's still hot out, but I'll get it out this evening and see if anything is different. Haven't fixed the carb puke, but it's on my list.
