ported manifold 4 Years, 6 Months ago
Having done stage 2 exhaust, poor mans BAK, K&N and AIS removal I'm looking for a bit more power. Question is what can I gain from a ported manifold and who does it best? I'm considering the manifold along with the Dyna 3000 to raise the RPM's. Suggestions? I have no interest in busting in to the engine yet.

The Dyna 3000 won't really help if you are looking for performance. Main thing is it raises the rev limit the stock limit really sucks! I hand ported my manifold, changed pipes and added Barons BAK at the same time so I don't know truly the difference it makes but it is very easy and costs nothing but time! Nemiess (sp?) also has a good upgrade manifold and the is a guy on R* Riders forum Ben Hurr manifolds too.

What is your jetting? The porting helps get the most out of the pipes, airkit, and jetting. The dyna won't give you any more power. You are already at 4750 on the rev limiter. I don't think you will be jumping for joy over an extra 250 rpms. Just my .827 cents anywho.

Sorry, I wrote it wrong I meant to say what Musky said The Dyna WON'T increase your power. But, I think the increase in the rev limit DOES help. You could also go for a 30 tooth front pulley for more "throw you in the back seat take off"

For the setup you now have (stage 2 exhaust, poor mans BAK, K&N) a Dyna is a waste of money.

You currently max out at 4750 rpm. Even with your mods, the HP curve is decreasing before you hit the limiter, so if you increase the rev limit to 5000 rpm you are not benefiting. You should shift before you hit the limiter to get the most from the bike.

As for Torque .... it's long gone as it has peaked before 3500 rpm.

Better to sink you money into after maket pipes first, to get better HP and Torque values, and then an air box.

I suspected that the Dyna was better suited to much larger modifications than I want to make.
So far as the ported manifold, much trouble installing? I used to wrench on race cars so i know how but there are easy installs and then there are the "other" ones!
Following on, does anybody know who actually dyno's their exhausts for proven HP gains? Most of them I think cut horsepower and make a lot of racket. I want some HP and rumble.

vance & hines and cobra put dyno time into their exhausts

the quality is about the same (v.good) for both.

i´ve been fitted a couple of sets of the cobra speedsters (shotgun lookalike but with a hidden transfer chamber) recently, and they seem to work very well.

The biggest pain as far as the ported manifold is taking all the crap off to get to it. None of it's hard. Just time consuming.

You can port you own manifold. Check out the Galleries tab on how much material to take off. Some more info here .... Manifold

Mostly right but I believe that some of the newer pipes seem to be 'tested' so that they can get a better compromise between power (Torque and HP) and sound.
