How fast is too fast? 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I feel I should state ahead of time, I ride fast, I admit it. I always have. Blame it on my back ground in motocross and flat track, maybe. I have owned and built all kinds of bikes, from cafe to choppers, and sport to tour. Never makes a difference in the way I ride. It is what it is.

Today I was on a ride with a few guys, mostly friends I have ridden with for years, and a couple guys I just met today. We headed out to go see Dicky Betts play in Albany, about a hour ride. As usual I set the pace, mainly because I can't stand to ride behind other riders, I'd rather peel off and go it alone than fall in. Anyway, I would say I averaged between 75-80 mph. So when we get there, one of the guys I just met, riding a 110" ultra with a six speed, walks up and tells me I am "over riding" my bike, and that it won't handle cruising at "those" speeds". WTF?!! are you talking about? I asked. He says my bike is not geared for it. I don't have a tach, but I really didn't feel like I was beating it. I mean I would cruise my Warrior at 80 all day. So am I all wrong here, or am I going to destroy this bike?

I ride 75ish every day to work when I can. Of course traffic really dictates when I can, but you get my point. Anytime I'm on a highway its 70+ if traffic allows.

He just didn't wanna admit you were going to fast for him and he didn't want to have to keep up on the way home

Mine loves 75-80! Maybe his got hot and sucks a lot of fuel at that pace.

+ a big one on Dickie Betts! How was the show? Never seen him live.

Around 80 is about as fast as I do like to go. Much faster, and I'm scanning too hard ahead to enjoy the ride. Offer him to swap bikes and see if it feels "taxing" to run it that fast!

I ran about 160 miles today, half alone half two up, 80 for over half the miles I am sure, couple times a bit more. 75 feels good and the bike definitely feels good, and a nice note singing out the pipes.

+++ on the Dickie Betts
