Can anyone with a tach and stock gearing tell us what rpm is at 65, 70, 75, 80 and beyond?

That bit of info would be useful in the whole "How fast is too fast" debate.

He thinks, that's his problem.. your bike can handle it.
Let him try and race ya. See what his money got him. It will be close.
I had an 06' my brother has millenium, anyway long story short we ride them like we stole them when together, his 1600 against my 1700 and i would just get that bike length and slowly pull away if we had safe space to keep playing. After major accident in 09,(it had 45,000ish miles on it) I got Stratoliner 09' his first trip with me and he calls me a F***ing A**hole, I go what, he says that thing walked on him. Anyway hasn't been a single Screamin Chicken that has beat me I just ride, no races.
My RoadStar kept with the best of them and now, I leave them behind.

Ride Safe

=================

I have a tach so for people interested in rpm vs road speed if thinking of going to a non stock 31T i installed a 31T drive pulley my 06 silverado which turns roughly 2,400 rpm @ 60mph/2,600rpm @ 65mph/2,800 rpm @ 70mph.

For me any long distance cruising over 75mph with 31t pulley (75mph w-31T = approx 80mph with 32T pulley) gets too buzzy/little too much cruise rpm for my liking over the long haul.

With the stock 32T drive pulley my 06 silverado came with the cruise rpm at those same speeds stated above was approx 150-200rpm less at those same given speeds.

Gotta say, I'm a little surprised to hear that HD's have a hard time cruising at 80mph. Something smells a little off here.

That's not an unheard of speed. There are many freeways here in CA, that have had posted limit of 75mph for some time now. The average flow of traffic on most any freeway out here is often 5-10 mph over the posted limit, without CHP hassle. I know CA isn't the only place where that holds true. I believe some places in Texas even have posted 80mph limits, so I would have thought Milwaukee would have taken that into consideration when designing the newer bikes. ...What's up with that?

I don't really see in the original post where it says anything about the Harley was having trouble keeping up at 80 or that the rider was uncomfortable riding that speed. All I am reading is that some uninformed rider of another brand of bike was talking to the OP about things he knows nothing about. IE: "So when we get there, one of the guys I just met, riding a 110" ultra with a six speed, walks up and tells me I am "over riding" my bike, and that it won't handle cruising at "those" speeds"." Kinda funny how folks read details into post on forums that they want to so that they themselves can comment on another brand of bike that they themselves know nothing about. The Ultra rider was obviously misinformed about a Roadstar and that is all there is to this post.

75 to 80 and the bike likes it,any slower and it seems to want to dog,if I do 55 or so around here then seems that 4th gear is at the top end and 5th gear is to low until I get up to around 60,then it starts breathing again.
I ride the way I feel comfortable with, don't like to do 75 on the back roads due to all the farmers and their tractors or the teeny-booppers on their cell phones, but put me on I-70 or I-44 and watch me go,Hi-wy 40-61 is a great ride up to Mark Twain Lake.
When the wife has enough of my stuff, she tells me to go for a ride and zoom,I'm off,no problem....

I rarely ride hiways, but I went to the NE M&G a month ago. I did 60-65 on the way up alone, and it was a little buzzy, but the mpg was great.

On the way home that evening I was riding with others and doing 70-85 all the way back. It loved it! Was smooth as glass... but the mpg's went right down the toilet.

I run a 31 tooth drive pulley, and 85 is not any problem for my '01s to cruze at.

Over-ride it, Baby, over-ride it!!!

Yeah, who is doing the driving would make up for a lot of motor. I know my springer would wax my R*, that thing has crazy torque. If it were a 100 mile race, Roadie all day!
