Don't push it Smokes, My bookeeper had back surgery about 8 years ago and she kept doing heavy yard work that she shouldn't have and has been out on disability for the past month and just had surgery scheduled for mid August.

She will be out for another 6 weeks after that.

Don't listen to Coalstoves! The dude's like, 2 years old according to his profile! He ain't got no bad back!

Remember the old Groucho Marx joke about telling the doctor "it hurts when I go like this" and the doc replies "Don't go like that!"

You're not soldiering or training to be one, so if it hurts, probably should take it off the activity list for a bit.

If you are soldiering, remember the words of Cdr. Richard Marchinko "If it hurts, thou art doing it correctly"

Haha two years old no but I would love to be in my 30's again !

I'm tellin ya I had a couple a things happen in Life that put an abrupt end to an intrest or hobby. Dont get comfortable making excuses not to do what you love while you still love it,society welcomes it too readily.

In the end you'll know when its over and no one will have to tell ya or agree with you.

I hear ya partner, but measured aggression is somtimes the hot setup! Don't want your own exuberance to be the reason you have to stop!

Does Pennsyltucky still have coal? Kentucky seems to be running thin, and they ain't mining any right now cuz natural gas is dirt cheap after the warm winter. My dad is 62.5 years old and is facing a lay-off in a few months if they don't find a market for some coal.

Coal ! Oh yeah !!

We live in the Anthracite coal region, Anthracite is the Hard Shiny Black stuff that burns extremely Clean.

I live 1/2 mile from a major deep mine and a mile from an enormous stripping operation Chinas buyin the stuff like there’s no tomorrow.

Course Marcellus Shale Gas Drilling is now big here a county or so North of us and thats whats Booming.

ok so for almost 2 weeks now i have been fighting a pinched nerve in my back. in the morning i feel ok enough to do the normal stuff like get out of bed to use the restroom, shower, cook some breakfast, ect but as the day goes on the pain starts to incresse and by the time i come home from work at 1am i can hardly stand let alone walk. i went to my spine doc and he said i either pinched my sciatic or i may have blown another disk out he put me on some pain killers (that i cant take cause i drive a semi truck and d.o.t would pull my CDL if i drop dirty) muscle relaxers that i can only take at night cause they will make me just want to sleep, and a steriod anti-inflamatory. today is the first time i feel even close to normal and here it is 12:30pm and i am dying to ride my bike that i havent in a week and leave the cage at home. but should i with today being the first day i feel "ok" for now or should i maybe wait to see how i feel tonite and go from there?? im dying to ride but should i chance it.. and i allready know the phone call i would get from the wife at around 6pm if i do take the bike
Hey man, I'm a trucker too, and I hear you on the nerve. I go to the chiropractor a couple times a month and use a back hugger lumbar pad in the truck. This regimen keeps me going very well.

Hey smoke, how long have you had this pain? did it just happen? I have had back pain for about a year got my MRI back turns out i have Sciatica as well, however there are different kinds of it, a lot of people think you can only get it from a disc bulging and it compress the spinal cord then the nerve. this statement is not always true, some people are born with there sciatic nerve going through there muscle "rare" so when they go to do somthing physical it will swell up and pinch the nerve ya it sucks thats what happens to me lol and I am in the navy so not a good thing when i cant walk LOL. however some tips are as followed

1. do not sit- lay down it relaxes the muscle/ spine even though it hurts for about the first hour make sure you lay on your back.

2. if you bring your knee up to your chest then lean it to the opposite direction of the leg it will stretch it feels good.

3. make sure u use cold compress first then heat both for about 20 minutes 3 times a day. If you only use heat you will mess yourself up.

4. If none of this works, ask for a medicine called Predisone its a steroid but i promise you you'll be better in like 3 days. or if you go to your dr you can ask for a shot of tordal in you back and it will start feeling a lot better within an hour.

Anyway happy riding brother!
