Personally, I wouldn't dremmel out where the risers bind to the bars. That really should be a really perfect fit.

Many bars (like the fatter/burley type) reduce to 1" at the risers.

Here's the one's I went with. Bars are 1" end to end. I liked these risers beause the bolts are hidden. And, even at only 1", I was able to get all wires inside, including the internal throttle cable.

I used the batwing risers, If you do, make sure the hole is big enough to give you some room for bar adjustment without pinching

On the batwing riser, it only clamps on thr outer part of the bars were they are knurled, giving you a couple inches to work with in the center.

Rich,
I see what you are saying but I already bought the bars la choppers prime apes which are made for the Harley riser spacing so I am somewhat committed at this point. I really liked the look of the apes that came to a point. I would just have to dremel out a little on the edges to make it work. What risers are you using?

Not sure what you mean by batwing riser?

So I have gathered all the parts, risers ect that I think I need for internal wiring. I would like to get a few things cleared up for me.
1. From what I have read trying to get the plugs apart may not be a good idea. So that means I need to make two solder connections per wire? Here is where I am confused so that would mean all of the "second" splice will need to be outside of the bar. Correct?

I put all of mine within 6" (at various points) from the plugs. So, yes. Outside the bars makes sense for the case where a splice may come loose. It would be a ***** to get to them if they're inside the bars.

So, cut your plugs off at different points. Run the wires through and splice to the proper length to get them into the headlight bucket nice and even. That way, the wires are solid all the way out of the bars.

Solder and heat shrink for best results.

I know we are slamming yall with ape/wiring questions. As soon as we get it done yall can take a brake and we can answer all of them. Correct me if I am wrong as I have never even seen what the wiring or inside of controls look like. But if I cut the plugs off and splice wire in, wont atleast one set of splices be in the bars?

Maybe. Really depends on how tall the apes are.

With 14" apes, all of my splices are outside. Remember, 14" apes = 4"+- over stock length cables, etc.. So, only 4"+- of wiring should be consumed by the apes running the wiring internal.

Measure to be sure before you start running them if you don't add your splices first.
