Which Attorney? 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
After reading another of the posts here about some cager pulling out in front of one of the members it started me thinking (now you've gone and done it...).

Do you have a contact for an attorney in case an accident happens? If so:
- Is it a local person that belongs to one of the national organizations?
- How did you find them?
- Is there a yearly cost to keep them on retainer on just their number in your back pocket?
- What is the best way to find a good morotcycle attorney?
- Are any of the National Associations any good (LawTigers, etc.)?

I am very interested in all of your experiances with this even if you haven't had an accident. For those that have experianced this unfortunate event, would it be of value to put togather a sticky post that could outline some of the things to ask for from the insurance company for either help or compensation?

I know every situation is different but if it happened to me today I would be at the mercy of the insurance companies, and that is not a good place to be from my experiance with other matters.

So what do you think, please share your knowledge and experiance. Thanks

My dad was the one who was almost backed over by a waste management truck recently. I can not stress enough the importance of an attorney in matters like this. When the insurance company offered settlement on the totaled bike and sent a letter for him to sign the fine print also released them of liabilities for his injuries. After I read this I told him to give the document to his lawyer who made minor changes which were accepted by the insurance company. If he hadn't sought the advice of his lawyer he could have screwed himself big time. As far as finding an attorney, he chose one based on a referral from a friend.

If it was my comment on that other post, my attorney is one of those "family friends" type deal. I'd suggest doing some research locally. Most "good" lawyers will talk to you for free, and go over your case and all that fun stuff pro-bono, or however you spell that. You shouldn't owe anything.until your case is won and the settlement is reached....

There are usually one or two attorneys that set up booths at some of the bigger local bike shows. I pick up one of their cards and tuck it in my wallet.

Ask me about my attention deficit disorder or my pie or my cat. A dog. I have a bike. Do you like TV? I saw a rock. Hi.
